Fosroc Concure WB
Water-based, white-pigmented wax emulsion curing membrane that seals moisture into freshly cast concrete for proper cement hydration on slabs, pavements and infrastructure.
What is it?
A water-based concrete curing compound based on a low-viscosity wax emulsion. Supplied as a white (milky) emulsion that breaks on the fresh cementitious surface and dries to a continuous clear film, forming a moisture-retaining membrane.
Where is it used?
Sprayed or applied onto freshly cast concrete on large-area slabs, pavements, runways, roads and bridge decks, plus vertical and sloping surfaces, across RMC, precast and infrastructure projects in India.
Why use it?
Retains mix water for proper cement hydration, reducing the risk of plastic shrinkage cracking and surface dusting in hot, windy Indian site conditions without the labour of continuous water curing.
How is it applied?
Apply a continuous film by low-pressure spray (or brush/roller for small areas) immediately after final finishing and bleed-water disappearance, at 3.5 to 5.0 sq.m/litre (0.200 to 0.285 litres/sq.m).
About Fosroc Concure WB
Fosroc Concure WB is a ready-to-use, water-based concrete curing compound formulated on a low-viscosity wax emulsion with a special alkali-reactive breaking system. It is supplied as a white, milky emulsion. When applied to fresh, alkaline concrete the emulsion breaks and dries to a continuous, clear film that acts as a moisture-retaining membrane, holding the mix water in the concrete so that cement hydration can proceed efficiently.
It is important to position Concure WB correctly: this is a curing membrane, not a water-reducing admixture. It is NOT a polycarboxylate ether (PCE) superplasticiser and NOT a sulphonated naphthalene formaldehyde (SNF) product. Its job is to seal the cast surface against premature moisture loss, not to modify the fresh mix. The white pigment gives high initial visibility for uniform application and reflects solar radiation during the critical early curing window, while the film dries clear.
For the Indian construction context, controlled curing is decisive. On large RMC pours, highway and airport pavements, bridge decks and precast yards, hot ambient temperatures, low humidity and drying winds drive rapid surface evaporation, leading to plastic shrinkage cracking, reduced surface strength and dusting. Membrane curing with Concure WB delivers consistent, single-pass curing across vast areas where ponding or wet hessian is impractical, supporting the curing intent of IS 456 for cast-in-situ concrete. Being water based, it is non-flammable, low-odour and well suited to enclosed and occupied-area work.
Space Arc Engineering supplies Concure WB as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, with technical support on selection, coverage and application method. Where a resin-based or wax-based alternative is specified, comparable membrane-forming curing compounds include MYK Laticrete and BASF MasterKure ranges; we will advise on the right product for your finish and downstream coating requirements.
The technical insight
Concure WB works by physical sealing rather than chemical action on the mix. The wax-emulsion film cuts surface evaporation so the cement-water reaction can complete, which is why correct film continuity matters more than over-thick application. Apply at 3.5 to 5.0 sq.m/litre (0.200 to 0.285 litres/sq.m) as a single continuous coat; spreading thinner than this range leaves gaps in the membrane and under-cures the surface. Independent test data behind the product show water loss of less than 0.55 kg/m2 (ASTM C156), reflectance greater than 60% (ASTM E1347) and drying to a touch-dry film in under 4 hours (ASTM C309) – figures that quantify its moisture retention, solar reflectivity and turnaround. Specific gravity is approximately 1.00-1.01 g/cc for the white grade. Because a wax film can interfere with the bond of subsequent toppings, paints or adhesives, plan for its removal where a bonded finish follows.
Where it is used
- Curing of large-area ground-bearing and suspended RMC slabs
- Concrete roads, highways and airport runway pavements
- Bridge decks and other infrastructure decks
- Precast concrete elements and yard production
- Vertical and sloping concrete faces where ponding is impractical
- Hot-weather and windy-site concreting where rapid evaporation risk is high
- Industrial floors and warehouse slabs requiring uniform early curing
Key advantages
- Ready-to-use, single-coat water-based membrane – no mixing or dilution required
- White pigment gives high application visibility and reflects solar heat, then dries to a clear film
- Effective moisture retention: water loss less than 0.55 kg/m2 (ASTM C156) supports proper hydration
- High reflectance greater than 60% (ASTM E1347) reduces early thermal gain in hot conditions
- Fast turnaround – dries in under 4 hours (ASTM C309) for early site progress
- Water based, therefore non-flammable, low-odour and suited to enclosed areas
- Efficient coverage of 3.5-5.0 sq.m/litre for fast curing of large areas
- Reduces labour and water demand versus continuous wet/ponding curing
Limitations & considerations
- Curing membrane only – it is not a water-reducer, plasticiser, PCE or SNF admixture and must not be added to the mix
- The dried wax film can impair adhesion of subsequent toppings, screeds, paints, tiles or coatings and generally needs removal before bonded finishes
- Apply only after bleed water has disappeared and the surface is finished; premature application can mar the surface
- Film continuity depends on correct application rate – under-applying below 3.5-5.0 sq.m/litre leaves gaps and under-cures
- Not a substitute for good mix design, finishing or crack-control detailing
- Removal method and downstream finishing should be confirmed against the current Fosroc TDS for the specific project.
Selection & best practice
Apply Concure WB in a single continuous coat by low-pressure spray immediately after final finishing, once surface bleed water has evaporated, at 3.5 to 5.0 sq.m/litre (0.200 to 0.285 litres/sq.m). Use the white pigment as a visual guide to confirm full, gap-free coverage. On hot, windy days do not delay application after finishing. Where a bonded topping, screed, tile bed, paint or coating will follow, plan to remove the wax film first and verify the manufacturer-recommended removal and surface-preparation method against the current Fosroc Technical Data Sheet for the project. Always confirm grade (White vs Clear) and project-specific coverage with Space Arc before ordering.
