What is it?

A cleaned, kiln-dried, closely graded white quartz filler (maximum grain size 0.3 mm) made to blend into Sikafloor self-smoothening epoxy and PU resin systems.

Where is it used?

On industrial and commercial concrete floors where a Sikafloor resin underlayment or self-levelling topping is being laid — warehouses, workshops, food and beverage units, retail and logistics floors.

Why use it?

It gives the resin mix the right particle grading to flow and level cleanly while adding body, surface hardness and abrasion resistance to the cured floor at a lower cost than neat resin.

How is it applied?

It is not used on its own. The correct dose of Quartz-04 IN is blended into the mixed Sikafloor binder as directed by that system’s data sheet, then the filled resin is poured and self-levelled.

About Sika Quartz-04 IN

Sika Quartz-04 IN is one of those quiet products that most people on site never see, yet almost every good resin floor depends on. It is not a coating, a hardener or a primer — it is the graded quartz aggregate that goes into the bucket with a Sikafloor resin to turn a thin liquid binder into a workable, self-levelling underlayment or topping. Sika supplies it cleaned, kiln-dried and carefully sized so that the applicator gets consistent flow and finish batch after batch, rather than the variability you get scooping unwashed local sand into an expensive epoxy.

The physics behind it is simple. A self-smoothening resin needs a well-graded solid phase so it can spread, release air and settle to a flat, dense surface. Quartz-04 IN provides that solid phase with a maximum grain size of 0.3 mm and a bulk density of around 0.97 kg per litre. Because quartz is one of the hardest common minerals, the same filler that helps the floor level also stiffens the cured film and lifts its resistance to foot traffic, trolley wheels and grinding abrasion. For a distributor customer, the practical point is this: the resin decides the chemistry, the temperature limits and the chemical resistance — but the quartz filler quietly decides how flat, how hard and how economical the finished floor turns out to be.

The technical insight

The value of a filler like this is entirely in its grading, cleanliness and dryness. A self-levelling resin behaves like a dense suspension: the aggregate has to pack efficiently so the mix stays fluid at a low binder demand yet still self-releases air and flows out flat. Quartz-04 IN is closely graded to a 0.3 mm top size specifically so it slots into Sika’s self-smoothening systems without choking flow or leaving a rough, pinholed surface. Kiln-drying matters just as much — even a trace of moisture on the grains would react with an epoxy or PU binder, causing foaming, blistering and loss of bond. Because the grains are crystalline silica, the hardest common floor mineral, they carry through to the cured surface and become the wearing skeleton that takes the abuse, letting the comparatively soft resin simply hold everything together. That is why the same bag improves both wet behaviour (levelling) and dry performance (hardness and abrasion resistance) at once.

Where it is used

  • Bulking and grading the resin mix for self-smoothening Sikafloor underlayments over prepared concrete
  • Producing self-levelling epoxy toppings in food, beverage and processing units where a hard, flat finish is needed
  • Reinforcing resin screeds in engineering workshops and maintenance bays
  • Levelling underlayments ahead of coloured or sealed resin wear coats in warehouses and logistics floors
  • Hard-wearing resin floors in commercial retail, showroom and back-of-house areas
  • Re-profiling and re-levelling toppings on worn or uneven industrial concrete slabs
  • Blended into filled Sikafloor systems such as the Sikafloor Multidur ES range at the dosage given in that system data sheet

Key advantages

  • Fully compatible with Sikafloor resin binders — a matched, warranted component rather than site-sourced sand
  • Closely graded to 0.3 mm top size for reliable flow and a smooth, level self-smoothening finish
  • Cleaned and kiln-dried, so no moisture-driven foaming, blistering or bond loss in epoxy and PU systems
  • Crystalline quartz grains raise the cured floor’s surface hardness and abrasion resistance
  • Extends an expensive resin binder economically without diluting performance
  • Consistent white quartz colour and grading batch to batch for predictable results
  • Long 24-month shelf life in sealed bags eases stocking and phased projects
  • Handy 8 kg bag size makes accurate site batching against the resin ratio straightforward

Limitations & considerations

  • Not a standalone product — it does nothing on its own and must be mixed into a compatible Sikafloor resin
  • Dosage is not fixed on this filler; it is set by the specific Sikafloor system or product data sheet being used
  • It is a filler, so the resin — not the quartz — governs chemical resistance, temperature limits and cure
  • Contains crystalline silica; dust must be controlled and the correct SDS precautions and PPE followed when handling
  • Must be kept in sealed, undamaged bags in dry conditions between +5°C and +30°C, as any moisture ingress can spoil the mix
  • Substituting a different grade or unwashed sand will change flow and finish and voids the matched-system approach

Selection & best practice

Always treat Quartz-04 IN as one half of a system and let the Sikafloor resin’s data sheet drive the dosage — do not improvise the ratio. Store the bags sealed and dry until the moment of use, since moisture on the grains is the single most common cause of foaming and blisters in filled resin floors. At the mix, add the quartz to the pre-mixed binder gradually while power-mixing to a lump-free, uniform slurry, then place and self-level within the resin’s pot life. Keep the material, the substrate and the working area within the resin system’s temperature window, and never blend in unwashed local sand to stretch a batch. Control airborne dust when opening and pouring bags, and follow the current Safety Data Sheet for PPE.

Frequently asked questions

Can Sika Quartz-04 IN be used on its own as a floor?
No. It is a filler aggregate, not a flooring product. It only works when blended into a compatible Sikafloor resin binder; on its own it will not bond, cure or level.
How much quartz do I add to the resin?
There is no single fixed dose printed on the filler. The correct ratio is given in the data sheet of the specific Sikafloor system you are using, such as the Sikafloor Multidur ES range, so always work to that document.
What is the grain size and why does it matter?
The maximum grain size is 0.3 mm. That fine, closely controlled grading is what lets the filled resin flow and self-level cleanly while still adding hardness to the cured surface.
Why not just use ordinary sand to bulk out the resin?
Unwashed or damp site sand carries moisture and contaminants that cause foaming, blisters and bond failure in epoxy and PU floors, and its inconsistent grading ruins flow. Quartz-04 IN is cleaned, kiln-dried and matched to Sikafloor systems.
Does the quartz change the floor’s chemical resistance?
No. The resin binder governs chemical resistance, temperature limits and cure behaviour. The quartz mainly influences workability, flatness, hardness and abrasion resistance.
How is it packed and how long does it keep?
It comes in 8 kg bags with a shelf life of about 24 months from production, provided the bags are kept sealed and dry between +5°C and +30°C.

How we position Sika Quartz-04 IN

Sika Quartz-04 IN sits inside the wider Sikafloor resin-flooring family rather than competing with any finished floor. Specify it alongside the Sikafloor self-smoothening resin you are actually installing — the Sikafloor Multidur ES underlayment and topping systems are the natural partners, with Sika primers and a Sikafloor wear or seal coat completing the build-up. Where a project instead calls for a monolithic dry-shake hardener applied straight into fresh concrete — a genuinely different method, not a filler — Space Arc can supply Fosroc Nitoflor Quartztop or a comparable Sika hardener. Because Quartz-04 IN is a system component with no like-for-like equivalent across brands, our advice is to lock the resin system first and take the matched Sika quartz grade with it. Space Arc Engineering, as an authorised Sika distributor across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, can size the quartz to your chosen Sikafloor system and align the full flooring package.
