What is it?

STP ShaliFloor LH is a clear, water-based silicate liquid hardener and densifier for concrete floors. It soaks into the slab rather than sitting on top, so there is no coating to chip or peel.

Where is it used?

Power-trowelled industrial slabs, warehouse and logistics floors, factory shop floors, car parks and any old concrete that has started to dust or wear thin.

Why use it?

It reduces surface dusting, raises abrasion resistance and gives a harder, tighter wearing surface, extending the working life of a bare concrete floor at low cost.

How is it applied?

Flood the clean, cured slab and spread evenly with a squeegee, keeping the surface wet through the reaction. Usually one to two applications; no film build, no primer.

About STP ShaliFloor LH

STP ShaliFloor LH belongs to the class of chemical densifiers that Indian flooring contractors increasingly reach for when a bare concrete slab needs to perform harder than it was cast to. It is a clear, water-based silicate liquid: you pour it onto a cured floor, spread it with a squeegee, and let it penetrate into the capillary network of the concrete. There is no membrane, no topping and no colour change of any consequence, which is exactly why it suits live, working floors where a full resin system is neither affordable nor practical.

For engineers and consultants, the appeal is that it treats the concrete you already have. A typical grey slab carries a quantity of unreacted lime and open pores near the surface, and that is where dusting, powdering and early wear begin. ShaliFloor LH targets that top layer chemically rather than covering it. Because it is water-based and low in VOC, it is comfortable to use inside occupied buildings, and because the treatment lives inside the slab, it cannot delaminate the way a surface coating can. It is positioned as the sodium-silicate workhorse in STP’s silicate range, sitting alongside the lithium-silicate ShaliFloor Li LH for projects that want the premium chemistry.

The technical insight

The mechanism is straightforward pozzolanic chemistry. Ordinary Portland cement hydration always leaves behind free calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2), a soft, soluble by-product that contributes nothing to strength and is a major reason fresh concrete surfaces dust and abrade. When the silicate in ShaliFloor LH penetrates the damp pore structure, it reacts with that free lime to precipitate additional calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) — the same binding gel that gives concrete its strength in the first place. That new C-S-H grows inside the capillaries, so the near-surface concrete becomes denser, less porous and measurably harder. Two things follow from this. First, the effect is permanent: it is a reaction product locked into the matrix, not a film that wears off. Second, it needs free lime and moisture to work, which is why it performs on properly cured cementitious slabs and why keeping the surface wet during the reaction matters more than any single dosage figure.

Where it is used

  • Densifying and dust-proofing power-trowelled industrial concrete floors
  • Hardening warehouse, logistics and distribution-centre slabs that take constant forklift traffic
  • Treating factory and manufacturing shop floors exposed to abrasion and point loading
  • Rehabilitating old or dusting concrete floors that are otherwise sound
  • Preparing and tightening slabs before a subsequent seal, topping or resin coat
  • Car park decks, service corridors and loading bays in bare concrete
  • Improving the wearing surface of newly cast, cured slabs before they are put into service

Key advantages

  • Penetrating chemistry means no film to chip, peel or delaminate over time
  • Reacts with free lime to form permanent C-S-H, so the hardening does not wear away
  • Cuts surface dusting and powdering, keeping stored goods and machinery cleaner
  • Water-based and low-VOC, so it is safe to apply in occupied and enclosed spaces
  • Simple pour-and-squeegee application with no primer and minimal specialist labour
  • Leaves the floor virtually unchanged in appearance, preserving a natural concrete look
  • Low cost per square metre compared with resin toppings for the same dust control benefit

Limitations & considerations

  • It hardens and densifies but does not level, resurface or fill cracks and spalls — repair the slab first
  • Benefit depends on free lime and porosity in the concrete; very dense, low-cement or already-sealed slabs respond less
  • It is not a decorative or high-build coating; where colour, chemical resistance or a thick wearing course is needed, a resin or screed system is required
  • The reaction needs a damp surface and adequate dwell time — rushing or letting it dry too soon reduces effectiveness
  • It is not a moisture barrier or waterproofing membrane and should not be specified as one

Selection & best practice

Work on a fully cured, structurally sound slab that has been mechanically cleaned of laitance, curing compounds, oil and old coatings — the silicate must reach open pores to react. Flood the surface and spread it uniformly with a squeegee at roughly 0.15-0.25 L/m² per application, keeping the floor wet and worked for the dwell period so the reaction can proceed rather than the liquid simply drying off. Redistribute any pooling to avoid residue, and give a typical floor one to two applications depending on how porous and thirsty the concrete is. Remove excess and lightly rinse or dry-buff as recommended once the reaction is complete. Repair cracks, joints and spalled areas before treating, and always confirm current dosage and surface-prep detail against STP’s latest technical data sheet for the specific slab and site conditions.

Industry use cases

Warehousing & Logistics

Densifies distribution-centre and cold-store slabs so constant forklift and pallet traffic no longer raises dust over stored goods.

Manufacturing & Heavy Industry

Hardens shop-floor concrete under machinery, point loads and trolley movement, reducing abrasion and surface wear.

Concrete Floor Rehabilitation

Rescues old, sound-but-dusting slabs by tightening the worn surface chemically instead of overlaying an expensive topping.

Commercial & Automotive

Treats car park decks, service bays and corridor floors that need a clean, dust-free bare-concrete finish.

Pre-coat Preparation

Consolidates and strengthens a slab ahead of a seal or resin topping, giving the subsequent system a firmer, less porous base.

Frequently asked questions

Is ShaliFloor LH a coating or does it soak into the floor?
It is a penetrating treatment, not a coating. The silicate liquid is absorbed into the concrete and reacts internally, so there is no film sitting on the surface to chip, peel or delaminate.
Will it stop my warehouse floor from dusting?
Yes — dust control is its primary job. By converting soft free lime near the surface into hard C-S-H, it binds the powdery top layer and significantly reduces surface dusting and abrasion.
Can I use it on an old concrete floor or only on new slabs?
Both. It works on new cured slabs and on old floors that are still structurally sound but have started to dust or wear, provided the surface is cleaned back to open, reactive concrete first.
Does it change the colour or look of the concrete?
No meaningful colour change. The floor keeps its natural concrete appearance, which is one reason it is preferred over pigmented toppings where a bare-concrete look is wanted.
How is it different from ShaliFloor Li LH?
ShaliFloor LH is the silicate workhorse for general industrial densifying, while ShaliFloor Li LH uses lithium-silicate chemistry and is positioned as the premium option in the same STP family. Space Arc can advise which suits your slab and budget.
Does it make the floor waterproof?
No. It hardens and densifies the wearing surface and reduces porosity, but it is not a waterproofing membrane and should not be specified as one — use a dedicated waterproofing system for that.

How we position STP ShaliFloor LH

ShaliFloor LH is the value-focused sodium-silicate densifier in STP’s flooring range. Within the same STP family, step up to ShaliFloor Li LH when a project calls for lithium-silicate chemistry, or specify the dry-shake ShaliFloor NM non-metallic floor hardener when a new slab needs a hard-wearing monolithic topping cast in at the finishing stage rather than a post-cure liquid treatment. Where the requirement is decorative colour, chemical resistance or a thick wearing course, move to an epoxy or PU floor system instead. Across brands, Space Arc supplies directly comparable liquid densifiers from Fosroc (Nitoflor LH and the Nitoflor Lithurin range) and from other principals we distribute, so specifiers can standardise on whichever manufacturer their project or client approval mandates.

Preferred brand · Fosroc equivalent

Fosroc Nitoflor LH — Choose the Fosroc option when the specification or client approval calls for Fosroc, or when the project wants lithium-silicate chemistry as a like-for-like liquid densifier.
