What is it?

A three-component, pre-weighed transparent epoxy screed from STP that binds graded decorative aggregate into a jointless resin terrazzo, laid roughly 3 to 5 mm thick.

Where is it used?

Showrooms, retail floors, hotel lobbies, premium homes, museums and heritage interiors where a decorative aggregate look has to survive real foot traffic.

Why use it?

It delivers the visual appeal of exposed marble chip or glass-bead terrazzo with the compressive strength, chemical resistance and seamless hygiene of an epoxy screed.

How is it applied?

Prime the slab, broadcast or blend the chosen aggregate, pour the mixed clear resin, spread with a notched trowel and de-air with a spiked roller to a level, glass-clear finish.

About STP ShaliFloor SL T 3 ES

STP ShaliFloor SL T 3 ES, previously catalogued as ShaliScreed SL T, is a self-levelling three-component transparent epoxy screed built for floors that have to look decorative and still take punishment. The clear resin is the point of the system: instead of hiding the substrate under a pigmented film, it stays optically transparent so that whatever aggregate you set into it — marble chips, coloured quartz, glass beads or crystal — reads through the surface as a finished terrazzo. Because it is supplied as a pre-weighed three-part kit (base, hardener and graded filler), the mix is consistent on site and does not depend on an applicator judging ratios by eye.

For engineers and specifiers, the value is that a single laid system replaces the old tile-plus-grout terrazzo route. There are no joints to collect dirt, no grout lines to fail, and the cured screed behaves as a monolithic wearing layer between about 3 mm and 5 mm thick. It sits in STP’s ShaliFloor epoxy flooring family alongside pigmented self-levelling toppings and screeds, but this is the transparent, decorative-aggregate member of that range — chosen when the floor is meant to be seen, not just walked on. Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies it across Delhi NCR and pan-India as an authorised STP distributor and applicator.

The technical insight

The mechanism is aggregate encapsulation. The transparent epoxy fully wets and surrounds each piece of graded aggregate, then cures into a rigid, cross-linked matrix that carries load through the aggregate skeleton while the resin transfers stress between particles and bonds the whole mass to the primed slab. That is why the cured screed reaches compressive strength in the region of 60 to 70 N/mm², flexural strength around 25 N/mm² and tensile strength near 8 N/mm² — the resin is not just a coating sitting on top, it is a structural binder doing the same job cement paste does in conventional terrazzo, but with far higher chemical and abrasion resistance. The 3 to 5 mm build gives enough depth to bury the aggregate and still leave a clear wearing surface above it, so foot traffic polishes rather than exposes the stones. A spiked roller is used immediately after spreading because trapped air is the enemy of a clear screed: bubbles that are not released stay visible in a transparent matrix, unlike in a pigmented floor where they are masked.

Where it is used

  • Decorative marble-chip and coloured-quartz terrazzo floors in showrooms and retail
  • Hotel lobbies, restaurants and hospitality areas needing a premium seamless finish
  • Premium residential floors, feature entrances and villa interiors
  • Glass-bead and crystal aggregate feature and signage floors
  • Museum, gallery and heritage-building floor renovation where joints are undesirable
  • Corporate reception and experience-centre floors carrying steady foot traffic
  • Boutique and jewellery retail where high gloss and clarity are part of the display
  • Resurfacing sound existing concrete to a decorative aggregate look without demolition

Key advantages

  • Transparent resin shows decorative aggregate clearly for a true terrazzo appearance
  • Seamless and jointless — no grout lines to crack, stain or harbour dirt
  • High mechanical strength (roughly 60–70 N/mm² compressive) for a decorative floor
  • Resistant to a wide range of chemicals, abrasion and impact
  • Easy to clean, hygienic and effectively maintenance-free once cured
  • Pre-weighed three-component kit removes on-site mixing-ratio guesswork
  • Fast return to service — foot traffic typically after 24 hours
  • Design flexibility to blend different aggregates, colours and particle sizes

Limitations & considerations

  • Not UV stable on its own — outdoor or sunlit floors need a UV-resistant top coat to prevent ambering
  • Clear resin shows trapped air, dust and contamination, so surface cleanliness and de-airing are critical
  • Must not be laid below 10°C or above 45°C, which rules out uncontrolled site conditions
  • Rigid epoxy matrix has limited tolerance to substrate movement, thermal shock and freeze-thaw cycling
  • Requires a sound, dry, properly primed substrate; moisture or laitance causes bond failure
  • Aggregate quality and grading directly govern the final look, demanding careful material selection

Selection & best practice

Success is decided at the substrate. Mechanically prepare the concrete to a sound, clean, laitance-free profile, confirm it is dry, then apply the recommended STP primer so the screed bonds rather than delaminates. Work within the 10°C to 45°C window and plan around the pot life of roughly 40 to 50 minutes at 30°C — mix only what the team can place in that time. Set out and blend the decorative aggregate before pouring, then spread the mixed clear resin with a notched trowel to the target 3 to 5 mm and immediately pass a spiked roller to release entrained air while the resin is still workable. Keep the area closed and dust-free during cure; open to foot traffic after about 24 hours and hold vehicular traffic until full cure per the technical recommendation. For any area exposed to sunlight, specify a UV-resistant clear top coat to protect the appearance.

Frequently asked questions

What makes ShaliFloor SL T 3 ES different from a normal epoxy floor coating?
It is a transparent screed, not a pigmented coating. The clear resin is built up to 3–5 mm and encapsulates decorative aggregate so the stones read through as a terrazzo, while still giving epoxy-grade strength and chemical resistance.
Can it be used outdoors or in direct sunlight?
Not on its own. The clear epoxy is not UV stable and will amber over time in sunlight, so any exposed or outdoor area needs a UV-resistant top coat over the screed.
How thick is the finished floor and how strong is it?
It is laid roughly 3 to 5 mm thick over the aggregate and cures to about 60–70 N/mm² compressive, 25 N/mm² flexural and 8 N/mm² tensile strength.
When can the floor be used after laying?
Foot traffic is typically allowed after about 24 hours. Vehicular or heavy traffic should wait until full cure as per the product technical recommendation.
What temperature can it be applied at?
It should be installed between 10°C and 45°C. Outside that range the resin will not cure or level correctly, so ambient and substrate conditions must be controlled.
Do I choose the aggregate or does it come pre-mixed?
The resin is supplied clear so you can set graded decorative aggregate — marble chip, coloured quartz, glass bead or crystal — to your design. The look depends directly on the aggregate you select and how it is graded and blended.

How we position STP ShaliFloor SL T 3 ES

ShaliFloor SL T 3 ES is the decorative, transparent member of STP’s ShaliFloor epoxy flooring range. Where a project needs a pigmented seamless finish rather than an exposed-aggregate look, the pigmented ShaliFloor SL self-levelling toppings and screeds in the same family are the natural alternatives, and STP’s UV-resistant clear or PU top coats should be specified over this screed for any sunlit area. Across our other brands, teams comparing options often look at Sika’s Sikafloor decorative and self-levelling epoxy systems and MC-Bauchemie floor toppings for equivalent seamless-resin flooring. For heavy thermal-shock or wet-process areas where a rigid epoxy screed is unsuitable, a polyurethane screed such as a Fosroc Nitoflor PU-hybrid system is the more appropriate route.
