What is it?

A single-component, cement-based, polymer-modified tile adhesive from UltraTech’s Tilefixo range, tested to Type 1T under IS 15477:2019 and C1TE under EN 12004:2017 / ISO 13007-1:2014.

Where is it used?

Internal dry-area floors and walls — bedrooms, living and dining rooms, corridors, lobbies and staircases — over cement plaster, concrete or screed. Not for bathrooms, balconies, terraces or any wet or external zone.

Why use it?

It self-cures, so there’s no daily water-sprinkling routine to police on site; its 30-minute open time is workable even in Delhi NCR’s peak-summer heat; and the polymer modification pushes bond strength well past what a labour-mixed cement-sand slurry manages, which is usually what stops tiles from drumming hollow a year later.

How is it applied?

Mix with 24-27% potable water by weight into a lump-free paste using a mechanical stirrer, let it stand 2 minutes to mature, re-stir, then comb onto the prepared substrate with a notched trowel sized to the tile. Lay tiles within 30 minutes, pressing and moving each tile perpendicular to the notches to collapse air pockets, working bottom-to-top on walls.

About UltraTech Tilefixo Sumo CT Plus

UltraTech Tilefixo Sumo CT Plus sits one notch above the base Sumo CT in UltraTech’s Tilefixo adhesive range. Where Sumo CT is rated purely for ceramic tiles, the Plus variant extends its scope to small-format natural stone on floors — useful on the kota-marble-mosaic jobs that still turn up on Delhi NCR renovation sites alongside standard ceramic. Chemically it’s a cement-based, polymer-modified, single-component powder: no second component to meter, no site-mixed cement-sand ratio to get wrong. It carries dual certification — Type 1T under IS 15477:2019 and C1TE under EN 12004:2017/ISO 13007-1:2014 — which matters when a contractor or PMC asks for compliance paperwork on a corporate or institutional job.

On the ground, the product earns its keep on two things most cement-sand mortars fail at: curing discipline and bond consistency. Self-curing means masons aren’t relying on someone remembering to water the floor for three days — a step that gets skipped constantly on real Indian sites, and is usually why tiles pop hollow later. Because it’s factory-proportioned, bond strength doesn’t swing with how much sand the mason eyeballed in. Space Arc stocks and applies Tilefixo Sumo CT Plus on standard 2BHK/3BHK dry-area tiling — bedrooms, living rooms, passages — where a fast, reliable ceramic or small-stone floor is needed without wet-area waterproofing complexity.

The technical insight

The C1TE classification is the number worth understanding: “C1” means a standard cementitious adhesive with initial tensile adhesion above 0.5 N/mm² (Tilefixo Sumo CT Plus tests at 0.90-1.00 N/mm², nearly double the floor), and “E” means extended open time — the 30-minute window here versus the 20 minutes a plain C1 product typically holds. That extra margin matters more than it sounds on a hot Delhi afternoon, where uncovered adhesive can skin over before a slower mason reaches it. The tested slip value of 0.35-0.45mm (against a 0.5mm ceiling) is what keeps wall tiles from sliding down under their own weight before the adhesive grabs — worth checking on any TDS before approving a wall-tile adhesive for a vertical run of full-body tiles.

Where it is used

  • Ceramic floor tiling in bedrooms, living and dining rooms, and internal passages
  • Dry-area ceramic wall tiling — feature walls, TV units, dry (non-splash) kitchen backsplashes
  • Small-format natural stone flooring (kota, marble chips, small granite/marble tiles) in dry interiors
  • Apartment lobbies, staircases and common corridors with ceramic flooring
  • Office and retail interior fit-outs needing fast-track ceramic floors
  • Builder-floor and independent house internal tiling over cement plaster or screed
  • Renovation tiling over sound, existing cement-based substrates
  • Institutional interiors — schools, clinics, dry corridors — specified for budget-grade ceramic flooring

Key advantages

  • Self-curing formulation removes the daily water-curing step that’s most often skipped on real sites
  • 30-minute open time at 30°C gives masons a genuinely usable working window through Delhi NCR summers
  • Polymer modification lifts tensile adhesion to 0.90-1.00 N/mm² dry — well above the IS 15477 Type 1T minimum of 0.50 N/mm²
  • Dual-certified to IS 15477:2019 Type 1T and EN 12004:2017/ISO 13007-1:2014 C1TE, useful when a PMC or corporate client asks for standards compliance
  • Single-component, factory-proportioned powder — no site-mixed cement-sand ratio for quality to hinge on
  • Thin-bed application (3-12mm) keeps adhesive consumption and added floor dead-load low
  • Slip resistance tested at 0.35-0.45mm keeps vertical wall tiles from sagging before set
  • Backed by UltraTech’s national distribution and technical helpline for site queries

Limitations & considerations

  • Dry-area only — not designed for bathrooms, balconies, terraces, pools or any wet/external zone; UltraTech’s own Aqua Marine VT/VT Plus covers those
  • Scope stops at ceramic tiles and small-format natural stone on floors — large-format vitrified tiles or large stone slabs need the Royal NT/NT Plus range instead
  • Not suitable on flexible substrates (fibre-cement sheet, plasterboard, timber) or directly on metal, glass, plastic or PU waterproofing membranes
  • The 30-minute open and adjustable time is unforgiving — in Delhi’s peak summer heat, adhesive spread ahead of a slow mason can skin over before tiles go down
  • Sold only in 20kg bags — no small retail pack for minor patch repairs
  • 12-month shelf life from date of manufacture, so slow-moving site stock needs rotation, not indefinite storage

Selection & best practice

Get the substrate right before the adhesive touches it: use UltraTech Readiplast RP to true up vertical surfaces and Floorkrete for floors where undulation exceeds a few millimetres — Tilefixo Sumo CT Plus is a thin-bed adhesive (3-12mm), not a leveling compound. Mix only with the specified 24-27% water, stir 2-3 minutes to a lump-free consistency, let it stand 2 minutes, then re-stir — never add extra water later to “save” a stiffening batch, since that directly cuts bond strength. Comb with a notch size matched to the tile format, lay within 30 minutes, and always beat tiles in perpendicular to the notch ridges to collapse air voids — that’s the difference between a solid tile and a hollow-sounding one months later. Use spacers for consistent joints, wait the full 24 hours before grouting, and finish with Tilefixo Style Epoxy Grout or CG Grout rather than a generic cement grout.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Tilefixo Sumo CT Plus in a bathroom or on a balcony?
No. It’s certified and tested for internal dry areas only. For bathrooms, balconies, terraces or any wet/external zone, UltraTech’s own Aqua Marine VT (indoor wet) or Aqua Marine VT Plus (outdoor wet) is the correct product in the same range.
What tile sizes and materials does it work with?
Ceramic tiles on floors and walls, plus small-format natural stone on floors only. For large-format vitrified tiles or bigger stone slabs, step up to UltraTech Tilefixo Royal NT or Royal NT Plus, which are built for that load and format range.
How much coverage do I get from one 20kg bag?
UltraTech’s lab figure is about 7.5 sq.m at a 3mm bed thickness. Site coverage runs lower on an uneven substrate or with a heavier notch trowel, so order with an 8-10% wastage margin rather than the lab number.
Do I still need to water-cure it like traditional cement-sand mortar?
No — it’s self-curing. Just avoid disturbing the tiles until set, and give the tiled area a full 24 hours before subsequent use or grouting, as UltraTech’s data sheet specifies.
Once I mix it, how long do I have to use it?
Pot life is 3 hours at 30°C, but the open time — how long the spread adhesive stays workable on the substrate — is only 30 minutes. Beyond that window, don’t lay tiles into it; adhesion drops and you risk de-bonding.
What’s actually different between Sumo CT and Sumo CT Plus?
Sumo CT is rated for ceramic tiles only. Sumo CT Plus extends that scope to small-format natural stone on floors as well, for a modest step up in price — useful if a job mixes ceramic with the odd stone insert or border.

How we position UltraTech Tilefixo Sumo CT Plus

Within UltraTech’s own Tilefixo line, Sumo CT Plus is the everyday dry-area workhorse: below it sits the plainer Sumo CT (ceramic only), above it for wet zones sit Aqua Marine VT and VT Plus, and for large-format tiles or stone slabs the Royal NT / NT Plus / NT White range takes over. Pair it with Readiplast RP or Floorkrete for substrate leveling and Tilefixo Style Epoxy Grout or CG Grout for joints. Fosroc doesn’t compete directly here — its India portfolio is built around waterproofing, concrete repair and structural grouts rather than tile adhesives — so on a mixed scope it’s more likely to supply the waterproofing membrane under a wet-area tile bed than an alternative to this product. Where buyers do genuinely cross-shop is against Roff (Pidilite), MYK Laticrete and Weber (Saint-Gobain), all active in the same C1/C1TE tile-adhesive segment in Delhi NCR.
