What is it?

A single-component, cement-based polymer-modified tile adhesive meeting Type 3T (IS 15477:2019) and C2TE (EN 12004:2017 / ISO 13007-1:2014) — UltraTech’s mid-to-premium fixing solution for medium-format tiles and natural stone.

Where is it used?

Interior and exterior floors and walls over plaster, concrete and screed substrates; dry zones plus wet and submerged areas such as bathrooms, terraces, swimming pool decks, water tanks and fountains.

Why use it?

Bond strength clears the C2TE and Type 3T minimums with real margin on every UltraTech-published test — initial, wet, heat-aged and freeze-thaw — while a genuine 30-minute open time and self-curing chemistry mean less rework and no pre-soaking.

How is it applied?

Mixed with 24-27% potable water via mechanical stirrer, rested 2 minutes, remixed, then combed on with a notched trowel at a 3-12mm bed thickness; tiles must be laid within the 30-minute open time.

About UltraTech Tilefixo Royal NT

Tilefixo Royal NT sits in the middle of UltraTech’s TILEFIXO range — a step above entry-level VT/YT adhesives and a step below Royal NT Plus, which is UltraTech’s spec for extra-large-format tiles and heavier stone. For Delhi NCR jobs running standard 600x600mm to 800x800mm vitrified or ceramic tiles, natural stone cladding, or wet-area work like bathrooms, balconies and terraces, Royal NT is the grade most contractors actually reach for — the workhorse, not the flagship or the budget line, which is why it turns up on so many residential and mid-size commercial sites.

That reputation is backed by data UltraTech publishes rather than just claims. Under EN 12004/ISO 13007 testing, initial tensile adhesion comes in at 1.55-1.65 N/mm² against a C2 requirement of just over 1.0 N/mm², and that margin holds after water immersion, heat ageing and freeze-thaw cycling. Under IS 15477:2019, dry and wet shear and tensile figures clear the Type 3T minimums by a similar cushion. As an authorised UltraTech distributor and applicator, Space Arc specifies Royal NT where a job needs real wet-area or submerged performance — pool decks, terraces, bathroom walls — without stepping up to the large-format Plus variant.

The technical insight

The chemistry is a cement mortar modified with redispersible polymers, which is what gives cementitious adhesives their flexibility, water resistance and bond retention under stress — a plain sand-cement slurry cannot pass C2TE testing on its own. “Self-curing” means the polymer film keeps developing bond strength over time without a separate curing compound, which matters where the adhesive meets standing water soon after fixing, as in pool decks. C2TE and Type 3T are pass/fail thresholds against EN 12004/ISO 13007 and IS 15477 test methods respectively, not marketing labels — and UltraTech publishes actual lab results against each threshold, which is useful for comparing real margin rather than just the grade letter.

Where it is used

  • Ceramic, vitrified, porcelain and glass mosaic tile fixing on floors and walls
  • Natural stone flooring and cladding (marble, granite, basalt), back-buttered on verticals
  • Wet-area tiling in bathrooms, kitchens and utility areas
  • Exterior tiling on balconies, terraces, podiums and facades
  • Submerged applications — swimming pool decks, water tanks, fountains
  • Tile-on-tile and tile-over-old-floor renovation, after soundness checks
  • Medium-format tile fixing over plaster, concrete and screed substrates
  • Dry and wet-zone flooring in residential, commercial and institutional interiors

Key advantages

  • Bond strength clears C2TE/Type 3T minimums with real margin across initial, wet, heat-aged and freeze-thaw conditions
  • Genuine 30-minute open time gives crews room to adjust tiles before the adhesive skins over
  • Self-curing, single-component formulation — no pre-soaking of tiles, no separate hardener
  • Slip resistance of 0.35-0.45mm against a 0.5mm ceiling, useful for heavier or vertical tiles
  • Works across a 3-12mm bed thickness range, tolerating minor substrate undulation
  • Rated for submerged wet areas such as pool decks and tanks, beyond basic dry-fix adhesives
  • Backed by UltraTech’s pan-India dealer network and a matched system (BASEKRETE/FLOORKRETE levelling, TILEFIXO grouts)
  • Non-toxic and non-flammable, simplifying site handling and storage

Limitations & considerations

  • Not the correct spec for extra-large-format tiles or heavy stone slabs — that’s Royal NT Plus (C2TES1) territory
  • Pot life and open time are quoted at 30°C lab conditions; hot, windy or highly absorbent sites shrink these windows noticeably
  • Not suitable on flexible substrates (fibre-cement sheet, plasterboard, timber) or directly on metal, glass, plastic or PU-membrane substrates
  • Application is temperature-restricted to 5-50°C, with slower cure below 20°C — a real planning factor in North Indian winters
  • Standard grey mix isn’t right for white marble or light, translucent stone, where shadow-through can show — Royal NT White is the correct variant
  • Only performs to its datasheet numbers on a properly cleaned substrate — skipped prep, not the product, is the most common cause of on-site bond failure

Selection & best practice

Match trowel size to tile format, mix strictly to the 24-27% water ratio, rest 2 minutes and remix before use — never add water later to stretch pot life, as it weakens the bond. Back-butter granite and marble on vertical applications, use tile spacers for consistent joints, and press each tile in perpendicular to the trowel notches to collapse air pockets. Lay tiles within the 30-minute open time — anything left longer risks a skinned-over surface that won’t bond — and start vertical tiling from the bottom row upward. Allow the recommended 24 hours before subsequent foot traffic or grouting, and avoid application in direct sun or outside the 5-50°C temperature window; pot life shortens further on hot, windy or highly absorbent substrates regardless of the 30°C figure on the pack.

Frequently asked questions

Can Tilefixo Royal NT be used for large-format tiles?
It’s tested and rated for medium-format tiles and natural stone. For extra-large-format tiles or heavy stone slabs, UltraTech’s own recommendation is to move up to Tilefixo Royal NT Plus, which carries the higher C2TES1 (deformable) classification.
Is it safe for swimming pools and other submerged applications?
Yes — submerged areas such as swimming pool decks, water tanks and fountains are explicitly listed in UltraTech’s areas of application for this product.
How much water do I mix in?
UltraTech specifies 24-27% potable water by weight of the powder, mixed with a mechanical stirrer for 2-3 minutes, rested 2 minutes, then remixed before use. Don’t add extra water later to extend pot life — it weakens the bond.
What coverage should I plan for per bag?
UltraTech’s lab-tested figure is roughly 3.72 sq.m per 20kg bag at a 6mm bed thickness. Actual site coverage varies with substrate flatness, trowel notch size and tiler technique, so it’s worth ordering a small buffer.
Can it be used for tile-on-tile or over an existing floor?
Yes, but the existing tiles and base need to be checked for soundness and cracks first, and any polish, wax or smooth coating removed so the new adhesive has a mechanical key to bond to.
What grout should follow this adhesive?
UltraTech recommends TILEFIXO Style Epoxy Grout for best performance, or TILEFIXO CG Grout as the cementitious option, once the adhesive has cured sufficiently — typically after the 24-hour minimum wait.

How we position UltraTech Tilefixo Royal NT

Tilefixo Royal NT is the mid-tier workhorse in UltraTech’s TILEFIXO system. For extra-large-format tiles or heavy stone, step up to Royal NT Plus (C2TES1); for white marble and light natural stone, use Royal NT White to avoid shadow-through; for basic dry-area budget tiling, UltraTech’s VT/YT grade is the lighter-duty option. Pair it with UltraTech BASEKRETE or FLOORKRETE for substrate levelling ahead of tiling, and TILEFIXO Style Epoxy Grout or CG Grout for jointing. Outside the UltraTech range, credible C2TE-tier alternatives in the Indian market include MYK Laticrete, Roff and Weber’s reinforced tile adhesives — specifiers comparing options should check the actual EN 12004 test figures, not just the classification letter. Fosroc does not run a comparable retail thin-bed tile adhesive line in India; its relevant crossover is on the waterproofing side, where a Fosroc membrane or coating under a pool deck or podium can complement Tilefixo Royal NT above it rather than compete with it.
