What is it?

A 3K (resin, hardener, solid extender) epoxy-polyurethane self-levelling top coat that forms a monolithic, non-porous anti-static dissipative floor with a surface resistivity in the 10^6-10^9 ohm band.

Where is it used?

ESD-sensitive spaces such as electronic assembly areas, pharma clean zones, hospitals and operation theatres, plus abrasion-heavy industrial, food and automotive floors.

Why use it?

It bleeds off static build-up to protect components and people, and combines that with the flexibility, seamlessness and chemical resistance of a PU-modified epoxy that pure epoxy anti-static floors lack.

How is it applied?

Laid as a full system: ShaliPrime 2E SF primer, a 2 mm ShaliFloor SL UL 3ES base coat, a copper-strip earthing grid, a ShaliPrime 2E ASC conductive prime, then the 1-2 mm SL AS 3EPU dissipative top coat.

About STP ShaliFloor SL AS 3EPU

STP ShaliFloor SL AS 3EPU is the static-dissipative member of STP Limited’s ShaliFloor EPU family, and it is engineered for one job: keeping stray electrostatic charge from ever reaching a level that damages sensitive electronics or triggers a spark in a controlled environment. Rather than a single coating, it is a built-up system. A solvent-free primer wets out the prepared concrete, a 2 mm self-levelling underlay (ShaliFloor SL UL 3ES) creates the body of the floor, a copper earthing grid is embedded, a conductive prime (ShaliPrime 2E ASC) ties the network together, and the SL AS 3EPU top coat is flow-applied over it at 1-2 mm. The result is a jointless, hygienic surface that reads a controlled surface resistivity of N x 10^6 to N x 10^9 ohms and clears a static charge in roughly 0.03-0.05 seconds.\n\nWhat separates it from a conventional anti-static epoxy is the polyurethane modification in the chemistry. That PU content gives the film more flexibility and better resistance to micro-cracking under thermal and mechanical movement, while retaining the hardness (Shore D of 60 or above) and abrasion resistance a working floor demands. It cures to a semi-gloss finish, is available in a wide colour range, and can carry an optional aliphatic ShaliFloor TC 2PU seal coat of 60-70 microns where UV colour retention matters. For Indian projects, Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies the complete system, so the specification, earthing detail and post-installation resistance testing are handled as one accountable scope.

The technical insight

Static dissipation is not about insulating a floor or making it a bare conductor; it is about landing the resistance-to-earth in a deliberate window. SL AS 3EPU sits in the dissipative band of N x 10^6 to N x 10^9 ohms (verified to BS 2050 and ASTM D 257). That range is high enough to slow the discharge so a person or component never sees a sudden spike, yet low enough that charge always finds a path to ground instead of accumulating. The path itself is the embedded copper-strip grid laid at roughly one-metre centres in both directions, run to within about 150 mm of the walls, and connected out to the building earth at one end of the room. The conductive ShaliPrime 2E ASC beneath the top coat is what electrically couples the whole floor plane to that grid, which is why the layer sequence cannot be shortcut. The polyurethane-modified epoxy binder then does the mechanical work: it stays dense and pore-free so contaminants and static-generating dust cannot lodge, and its measured static decay of 0.03-0.05 seconds confirms the film moves charge fast enough for electronics-grade and clean-room duty.

Where it is used

  • Electronic assembly, PCB and semiconductor production areas where ESD would destroy components
  • Pharmaceutical clean rooms and manufacturing suites needing hygiene plus static control
  • Hospital operation theatres and critical-care areas requiring spark-free, easily sanitised floors
  • Data centres, server rooms and control rooms with sensitive equipment
  • Defence, ammunition-adjacent and aerospace electronics handling zones
  • Food, beverage and commercial kitchen floors needing a seamless, washable finish
  • Automobile assembly lines, workshops and showroom floors
  • General industrial floors demanding high abrasion resistance with dust-proofing

Key advantages

  • Delivers a controlled dissipative resistivity of 10^6-10^9 ohms with a 0.03-0.05 second static decay
  • PU-modified chemistry gives more flexibility and crack resistance than a plain anti-static epoxy
  • Self-levelling flow produces a seamless, jointless surface that is genuinely easy to clean
  • Hard-wearing: Shore D of 60 or more and low abrasion loss (about 80 mg, CS17 / 1000 cycles)
  • Non-porous and hygienic, so dust and contaminants have nowhere to settle
  • Good resistance to chemicals, oils and water for demanding process environments
  • Available in a wide colour range with an optional UV-stable TC 2PU top seal
  • Backed by BS 2050 and ASTM D 257 conformity for specification confidence

Limitations & considerations

  • ESD performance depends entirely on correct copper-strip earthing and connection to building earth; poor detailing voids the anti-static benefit
  • Colour can fade over time in areas exposed to direct sunlight unless the aliphatic ShaliFloor TC 2PU protective coat is applied
  • It is a multi-layer specialist system, not a single-coat paint, so it needs skilled application and adds programme time
  • Requires fully cured concrete (minimum 28 days old) and a properly prepared, moisture-controlled substrate
  • Foot traffic only after 60-72 hours and full cure at 7 days, so the area must be programmed out of use
  • Once a pack is opened the full quantity must be used, as the pre-batched three components cannot be part-mixed reliably

Selection & best practice

Success starts with the substrate: the concrete must be at least 28 days old, mechanically ground or abraded smooth, and free of oil, dust and laitance. Set out the copper earthing grid before the conductive layers go down, sticking self-adhesive strips at one-metre centres lengthwise and breadthwise, running them about 150 mm off the walls, and leaving one strip extended at a room end for the earth connection. Follow the layer order without shortcuts: ShaliPrime 2E SF primer (surface-dry in 6-10 hours), the SL UL 3ES base coat at 2 mm (leave 12 hours minimum), then the copper strip, then ShaliPrime 2E ASC over it, and finally the SL AS 3EPU top coat at 1-2 mm. Mix resin (A) with the solid extender (C) first to a homogeneous blend, add hardener (B) slowly, mix a full 5-10 minutes, then wait about 5 minutes to release entrapped air before pouring — pot life is only 40-60 minutes at 27 C. Allow 72 hours before use, clean tools immediately with ShaliPoxy Thinner, and always verify the installed floor’s resistance-to-earth by testing before handover.

Frequently asked questions

Is SL AS 3EPU conductive or dissipative?
It is dissipative. Its surface resistivity sits in the N x 10^6 to N x 10^9 ohm range, which slows charge as it drains to earth rather than conducting it instantly. For lower-resistance conductive requirements you would specify a conductive grade instead.
Why does it need copper strips and earthing?
The floor can only dissipate static if that charge has a defined path to ground. Copper strips laid at one-metre centres and connected to the building earth create that path; without correct earthing the anti-static function does not work, so this detailing is not optional.
How thick is the finished floor?
The dissipative top coat is applied at 1-2 mm over a 2 mm ShaliFloor SL UL 3ES base coat, on top of a primer and a conductive prime layer, giving a robust multi-layer build rather than a thin coating.
How is it different from a standard anti-static epoxy?
The polyurethane modification gives it more flexibility and better resistance to micro-cracking under movement and thermal change, while keeping epoxy-grade hardness and abrasion resistance. Plain anti-static epoxies are more brittle.
Will the colour stay stable in daylight?
Exposed areas in direct light can fade over time, though the flooring’s performance is unaffected. Where colour retention matters, an aliphatic ShaliFloor TC 2PU seal coat of 60-70 microns is recommended over the top.
How long before the floor can be used, and who installs it?
Allow 60-72 hours for foot traffic and 7 days for full cure. Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies the complete system across Delhi NCR and pan-India, including earthing detail and post-installation resistance testing before handover.

How we position STP ShaliFloor SL AS 3EPU

Within STP’s own range, SL AS 3EPU is the dissipative, PU-modified upgrade over the epoxy-based ShaliFloor 3E SL ASC (conductive) and sits alongside ShaliFloor SL 3EPU, the non-anti-static solventless EPU topping for standard industrial floors. It is built on ShaliFloor SL UL 3ES as its base coat and pairs with ShaliPrime 2E SF, ShaliPrime 2E ASC and the ShaliFloor TC 2PU seal to complete the system. Where a project is Fosroc-specified, the closest equivalents from our Fosroc range are Nitoflor EPU Conductive & Dissipative (the direct epoxy-PU hybrid match) and the epoxy-based Nitoflor SL Conductive / Dissipative; for a pure-PU heavy-duty ESD floor, Nitoflor SL3000 U ESD is the alternative.
