What is it?

A wall-to-wall expansion joint cover system in extruded aluminium (ASTM B221-02, alloy 6063-T6), where the cover plate clamps mechanically into clip-retaining members fixed on either side of the joint.

Where is it used?

Interior and exterior wall joints in commercial, institutional and public buildings — corridors, atria, facades and anywhere a structural gap crosses finished walls, including corner conditions.

Why use it?

The clamped clip retention keeps the cover seated through vertical, horizontal and transverse joint movement, while straight and corner profiles carry one clean cover line around changes in wall geometry.

How is it applied?

Clip-retaining members are fixed to sound substrate on both faces of the joint, profiles are cut and positioned to suit the run, and the cover is clamped home — then the perimeter is sealed where the exposure demands it.

About D-Seal ClampJoint

Every framed building moves — concrete shrinks, slabs deflect, temperature cycles push and pull the structure — and the expansion joints that absorb this movement inevitably pass through finished walls. Left open, they collect debris, telegraph cracks into plaster, and spoil otherwise clean interiors and facades. D-Seal ClampJoint closes these gaps with an extruded aluminium cover that is held by a positive mechanical clamp rather than exposed screws through the face, so the wall reads as one continuous surface while the joint behind it stays free to work.

What sets ClampJoint apart within the D-Seal range is its treatment of corners. Wall joints rarely run in one straight line; they turn at columns, lift cores and facade returns, and this is where many cover systems look improvised. ClampJoint pairs straight lengths with factory-matched corner configurations so the cover line stays consistent through every change of direction. Manufactured by Dhawan Associates under ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 certified systems, it suits both new construction and renovation, since the surface-mounted fixing avoids cutting chases into existing walls.

The technical insight

The engineering logic of ClampJoint sits in how the cover is retained. Clip-retaining members are anchored to the substrate on each side of the joint, and the cover plate snaps into these members under a controlled clamping action. Because retention comes from the profile geometry itself rather than fasteners through the visible face, the cover can accommodate movement in more than one plane — the manufacturer rates the system for vertical, horizontal and transverse movement — without loosening the way a face-screwed plate gradually does under cyclic loading. The aluminium is extruded to ASTM B221-02 in alloy 6063-T6, a grade chosen for its balance of extrudability, strength and corrosion resistance, which is why the same system can serve exterior facade joints as comfortably as air-conditioned interiors. The clamp is also serviceable: the cover can be released for joint inspection and re-clamped without damaging the retention members.

Where it is used

  • Expansion joints in walls of commercial and mixed-use buildings, including corner returns
  • Hospital and institutional corridors where covers must stay secure under daily traffic and cleaning
  • Shopping centres and airports with long wall runs crossing multiple structural joints
  • Educational campuses and public buildings needing tamper-resistant, low-maintenance joint covers
  • Exterior facade joints, including corner conditions at building offsets and tower junctions
  • Office interiors where the joint cover must read as a deliberate architectural line
  • Renovation and retrofit projects where surface mounting avoids breaking into existing walls

Key advantages

  • Positive mechanical clamp keeps the cover seated through multi-directional joint movement
  • Matched straight and corner profiles maintain one continuous cover line around wall geometry
  • No exposed face fixings — a cleaner appearance and fewer points for tampering or loosening
  • Extruded 6063-T6 aluminium to ASTM B221-02 gives long service life inside and outside
  • Surface-mounted installation suits both new build and occupied-building renovation
  • Cover releases and re-clamps for joint inspection without destroying the retention members
  • Low upkeep — mild detergent cleaning and a periodic clamp check are the routine

Limitations & considerations

  • It is a joint cover, not a waterproofing barrier — where the joint must be watertight, a separate water barrier or sealed system such as D-Seal JointShield or the Corner Joint System is needed behind or instead of it
  • Joint width and expected movement must be verified against the structure’s movement calculations before profile selection; it is not a substitute for a seismic-rated assembly on high-movement structures
  • Being surface-mounted, the profile stands proud of the wall face — a fully flush, recessed appearance is not achievable with this system
  • Retention depends on sound, plumb substrate on both faces; damaged plaster, hollow render or crumbling blockwork edges must be repaired before the clip members are fixed
  • It provides no fire rating on its own — where the joint crosses a compartmentation line, a tested fire barrier must be specified separately within the joint

Selection & best practice

Start with an accurate survey: measure the actual joint gap at several points along the run, and map where straight lengths end and corner configurations begin, because ordering the correct mix of profiles is what makes the finished line look intentional. Prepare both wall faces — clean, sound and true — and repair any weak substrate before fixing the clip-retaining members, since the whole system’s security comes from those anchors. Set the retaining members to consistent alignment on both sides of the joint, dry-position straight and corner profiles to confirm the geometry, then clamp the cover home progressively along the run and confirm engagement by hand at close intervals. On exterior work, seal the perimeter between profile and wall to keep wind-driven rain out from behind the cover. Hand over with a simple maintenance note: soft-cloth cleaning with mild detergent, keep the joint and corners clear of debris, and check clamp tightness during routine building inspections.

Industry use cases

Healthcare

Hospital corridors take trolley traffic, frequent washing and strict hygiene audits. ClampJoint’s fixing-free face wipes clean and its clamp retention resists working loose, keeping joint lines safe and presentable in patient areas.

Retail & Commercial

Malls and office towers have long wall runs that turn repeatedly at cores and atria. The straight-plus-corner profile system keeps one uninterrupted cover line through every return, which fit-out architects can detail with confidence.

Institutional & Government

Schools, courts and public buildings need covers that shrug off tampering and decades of use. The clip-clamped aluminium profile has no exposed screws to remove and only needs periodic clamp checks.

Facades & Exteriors

Building offsets and tower junctions create exterior wall joints, often at corners. The 6063-T6 aluminium handles Indian exterior exposure, with perimeter sealing closing the system against wind-driven rain.

Renovation & Retrofit

On occupied buildings, chasing into existing walls is disruptive and dusty. ClampJoint’s surface-mounted members fix directly to the prepared wall face, making it a practical upgrade over failed or missing joint covers.

Frequently asked questions

What joint widths can ClampJoint accommodate?
Profiles are selected against the measured joint gap and the movement expected in the structure. Since configurations are project-specific, share your joint width, run lengths and corner count with Space Arc and we will confirm the correct profile selection from the D-Seal range.
Can it be used on exterior facades?
Yes. The system is designed for both interior and exterior wall-to-wall joints, and the 6063-T6 extruded aluminium is well suited to outdoor exposure. On exterior work we recommend sealing the perimeter between profile and wall to keep rain out from behind the cover.
Does ClampJoint make the joint waterproof?
No — it is a movement joint cover, not a water barrier. Where the joint must be watertight, pair it with, or specify instead, a D-Seal system with an integrated water barrier such as JointShield or the Corner Joint System.
How are corners handled?
With factory-matched corner configurations rather than site-mitred straight lengths. This is the system’s core strength: the cover line stays continuous and consistent where the joint turns at columns, cores and facade returns.
Is it suitable for retrofit on an existing building?
Yes. Because the clip-retaining members are surface-mounted, there is no chasing into the wall. The substrate just needs to be sound and true on both faces — weak plaster or damaged edges should be repaired before fixing.
Does Space Arc install the system or only supply it?
Both. Space Arc Engineering is an authorised D-Seal distributor and applicator, so we can survey the joints, work out the straight and corner profile schedule, supply the material and install it — in Delhi NCR and across India.

How we position D-Seal ClampJoint

ClampJoint is the wall-and-corner specialist within the D-Seal expansion joint family, and it rarely travels alone on a project. Where walls see significant vertical structural movement, D-Seal Aerostar offers a clamp-type cover engineered for that condition; where the joint must also stop water, D-Seal JointShield adds an integrated water barrier and the D-Seal Corner Joint System combines a closed-cell foam seal with a clip profile. Floor joints in the same building are typically covered with D-Seal’s floor cover range alongside DriveFlex and DuraEdge Seal, while parapets and roofs move to AeroGuard and the Bellow-Grade System. For the perimeter sealing that exterior installations call for, Space Arc supplies compatible joint sealants from our Fosroc and Sika lines, so the whole movement-joint package can be specified and installed by one team.
