What is it?

A single-pack, water-based acrylic curing compound from STP that sprays or brushes onto fresh concrete and dries to a white film sealing in mixing water.

Where is it used?

Industrial floors, bridges, canals, reservoirs, pavements and slabs where fresh concrete must cure without premature drying.

Why use it?

Retains moisture so cement hydrates fully, giving stronger, less dusty, crack-resistant surfaces without labour-heavy ponding or wet hessian.

How is it applied?

Stir, then apply one thin, even coat by low-pressure spray or roller once the concrete has set, leaving no dry spots. No dilution.

About STP ShaliCure Acrylate WB 10

STP ShaliCure Acrylate WB 10 is a ready-to-use, water-based curing compound built on an acrylic copolymer and carrying a white pigment. When applied to freshly finished concrete it forms a continuous, moisture-retaining film that holds the mix water inside the slab through the critical first few days. That water is exactly what the cement needs to hydrate; lose it too early to sun and wind and you get a weaker, dustier surface prone to plastic and drying-shrinkage cracks. In the heat of an Indian summer, where a slab can dry out long before conventional curing gets going, a sprayed film like this is often the difference between a floor that performs and one that fails inspection.

The white pigment does two useful jobs. During application it shows the crew exactly where the compound has and has not landed, so coverage can be checked by eye rather than guessed. Once cured, that same white surface reflects a meaningful share of incident sunlight, keeping the concrete cooler and easing thermal stress on young concrete. The product conforms to ASTM C 309 (Type 2, Class B) and ASTM C 1315 (Type II, Class A), so it is genuinely a specification-grade membrane rather than a general-purpose sealer, and it is compatible with many paints, adhesives and resilient floor coverings applied later.

The technical insight

Curing is not about wetting concrete from the outside; it is about not letting the water already inside escape before the cement has consumed it. ShaliCure Acrylate WB 10 works on that second principle. The emulsion is sprayed on as a milky liquid, the water carrier evaporates, and the acrylic solids knit into a thin continuous membrane bonded to the surface. That film has very low water-vapour transmission, so the STP data records a water loss of only 0.025 to 0.032 percent over 72 hours, which is what keeps the internal relative humidity high enough for hydration to continue. The high surface reflectance of 62 to 68 percent lowers peak surface temperature, reducing the thermal gradient between a hot skin and cooler core that drives early cracking. Because the membrane is acrylic and pigmented white rather than wax-based, it also breaks down more predictably under UV and is friendlier to subsequent coatings and adhesives than many resin or wax curing films.

Where it is used

  • Curing of freshly cast industrial and warehouse floor slabs
  • Bridge decks, piers and other infrastructure concrete
  • Canals, reservoirs and water-retaining structures
  • Highway and airport pavement concrete
  • Large ground slabs and rafts poured in hot, windy conditions
  • Precast and formwork concrete, applied immediately after stripping
  • Any exposed concrete where ponding or wet-hessian curing is impractical

Key advantages

  • Water-based and low-odour, so safer to spray than solvent-based curing compounds
  • White pigment gives visible confirmation of coverage during application
  • High surface reflectance (62-68%) keeps young concrete cooler and reduces thermal cracking
  • Meets ASTM C 309 Type 2 Class B and ASTM C 1315 Type II Class A
  • Compatible with many paints, adhesives and resilient floor coverings applied later
  • Reduces surface dusting and hardens the surface by promoting full hydration
  • Fast, single-coat spray or roller application covers large pours quickly
  • Ready to use with no mixing of components and no dilution

Limitations & considerations

  • Not a decorative or long-term sealer; it is a curing membrane and will weather over time
  • A visible white film remains, so it is unsuitable where a clear or tinted finish is required from day one
  • Must be applied in a single coat with no dilution; thinning it defeats the moisture seal
  • Film integrity depends on even coverage, dry spots left uncoated will cure poorly
  • Not intended for surfaces that will receive tightly bonded coatings requiring a fully residue-free substrate without prior checks
  • Protect from freezing in storage and do not apply over standing water or contaminated surfaces

Selection & best practice

Bring the drum to a workable state first: stand it upside down for at least two hours, roll it back and forth around ten times, then stir with an electric stirrer for about two minutes so pigment and solids are fully dispersed. The concrete surface must be clean and free of standing water, with any sealer or contaminant removed so the film can grip. On industrial paving, wait until the concrete has started to set, then apply one thin, even coat by low-pressure handheld or airless sprayer, or by roller, at roughly 3.8 to 7.6 m2/kg for spray and 4.5 to 6.5 m2/kg for brush depending on surface texture. On formwork, apply immediately after stripping. Work systematically and leave no dry spots, touching up patchy areas, and never dilute the product. Application temperature should sit between 5 and 50 degrees C. Clean all tools with water at once, before the film hardens.

Industry use cases

Industrial Flooring

Curing large power-floated warehouse and factory slabs where uniform hydration reduces surface dusting and delivers a harder, more durable wearing surface.

Infrastructure & Bridges

Sealing moisture into bridge decks, piers and pavement concrete on sites where continuous water curing is impractical over long exposed pours.

Water-Retaining Structures

Curing canals, reservoirs and tank concrete so early-age strength and durability are achieved before the structure is put into service.

Highways & Pavements

Fast single-coat spray curing across long stretches of road and airfield concrete, with the white film aiding coverage checks over large areas.

Precast & Formwork

Applied immediately after stripping formwork to prevent rapid surface drying of freshly demoulded precast units in hot weather.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to dilute ShaliCure Acrylate WB 10 before spraying?
No. Dilution is expressly prohibited by STP. It is supplied ready to use; simply stir it thoroughly and apply as a single, undiluted coat, or the moisture-sealing film will not perform.
What coverage should I plan for?
Around 3.8 to 7.6 m2/kg by spray and 4.5 to 6.5 m2/kg by brush, depending on how open or textured the surface is. These are theoretical figures before wastage, so allow a margin for site conditions.
When during the pour do I apply it?
For industrial paving, apply once the concrete has started to set. For formwork concrete, apply immediately after stripping. The surface must be clean and free of standing water.
Which standards does it meet?
It conforms to ASTM C 309 (Type 2, Class B) and ASTM C 1315 (Type II, Class A), placing it as a specification-grade white-pigmented curing membrane.
Will it interfere with floor coatings or adhesives applied later?
It is compatible with many paints, adhesives and resilient floor coverings. That said, always confirm adhesion with the coating supplier and, where a fully residue-free substrate is specified, check or prepare the surface before overcoating.
What pack sizes and shelf life should I expect?
It is supplied in 25 kg and 225 kg sealed drums, with a 12-month shelf life when kept sealed and stored between 5 and 38 degrees C, away from heat, sunlight and freezing.

How we position STP ShaliCure Acrylate WB 10

Within the STP ShaliClass range, ShaliCure Acrylate WB 10 is the water-based, white-pigmented acrylic choice, sitting alongside STP’s paraffin/wax-emulsion curing compounds such as the ShaliCure PA and resin-based grades; pick this one when reflectance, low odour and later coating compatibility matter. Where a project already specifies Fosroc, the equivalent is Concure WB, a water-based white wax-emulsion curing membrane in our Fosroc catalogue. Space Arc also stocks curing compounds and complementary concrete admixtures, surface hardeners and floor coatings across Dr. Fixit, Sika, MC-Bauchemie and Master Builders Solutions, so we can match the curing compound to the downstream flooring or repair system on the same project rather than treating curing in isolation.
