SikaFume® DS
Silica Fume Densified Slurry for High Performance Concrete
Authorized Project Distributor — Sika India | Space Arc Engineering, Ghaziabad
Product Overview
SikaFume® DS is a highly processed, densified silica fume (microsilica) that functions as both a pozzolanic material and a micro-filler in concrete. When added to concrete mixes, it fills the microscopic voids between cement particles and chemically reacts with calcium hydroxide to produce additional C-S-H (calcium silicate hydrate) binder. The result is concrete with significantly increased compressive strength, dramatically reduced permeability, and enhanced resistance to chlorides, sulphates, and other aggressive agents. SikaFume® DS is the essential admixture for high-performance concrete in marine structures, bridge decks, high-rise foundations, industrial flooring, and infrastructure projects exposed to aggressive environments. Space Arc Engineering supplies SikaFume® DS for critical infrastructure projects across Delhi NCR and Northern India.
Applications
- High-strength concrete for bridge decks and superstructures
- Marine and coastal structure concrete (chloride resistance)
- High-rise building foundations and transfer structures
- Industrial floors requiring high abrasion resistance
- Nuclear and power plant concrete (low permeability)
- Sprayed concrete (shotcrete) applications
Key Advantages
- Dramatically reduces concrete permeability to chlorides and sulphates
- Increases compressive strength by 20–50% over control mixes
- Reduces bleed and segregation in fresh concrete
- Improves bond between aggregate and cement matrix
- Essential for concrete designed to C50 and above
- Reduces long-term chloride-induced reinforcement corrosion

Frequently Asked Questions
What is silica fume and why is it used in concrete?
Silica fume (microsilica) is a byproduct of silicon and ferrosilicon alloy production. Its ultra-fine particles (100× finer than cement) fill micro-voids in concrete and react with calcium hydroxide to form additional binder, producing stronger, denser, and less permeable concrete.
What is the typical dosage of SikaFume DS in concrete?
Typical dosage ranges from 5–10% by weight of cement. Higher dosages provide greater strength and impermeability but require more superplasticizer to maintain workability. Mix design should always be trial-tested.
Can SikaFume DS be used with all cement types?
Yes. SikaFume DS is compatible with OPC (ordinary Portland cement), blended cements (PPC, PSC), and in combination with fly ash, GGBS, and other supplementary cementitious materials. Consult Space Arc Engineering for mix design guidance.
