Fosroc Lokfix S40
A fast-setting, two-part filled polyester resin anchoring grout for high-strength, corrosion-resistant fixing of bolts, bars and starter rebars into concrete, rock, masonry and brickwork.
What is it?
A pre-measured, two-part filled polyester resin anchoring grout (small-aggregate ‘S’ grade) with a 40-minute pot life at 20 degC, used to bond bolts and bars 12-51 mm dia into drilled holes where the annular gap is under 25 mm.
Where is it used?
Anchoring foundation and machine bolts, base plates, starter/dowel bars, balustrades, crash barriers, safety fences, railway track fixings, tie-back and rock anchors into concrete, rock, masonry or brickwork.
Why use it?
It develops load-bearing strength in hours rather than days, resists vibration and corrosion, is non-expansive (no bursting of edge-distance fixings), and can even be placed under water or in damp holes – ideal when programmes cannot wait for cementitious grout to cure.
How is it applied?
Drill and clean a rough-sided hole, mix the full resin + catalysed filler pack, pour into the hole, then press and lightly agitate the bar to embedment depth and leave undisturbed until set – well within the gel time.
About Fosroc Lokfix S40
Fosroc Lokfix S40 is the 40-minute, small-aggregate grade of the Lokfix family of polyester resin anchoring grouts. It is a pre-measured, two-component system – a resin can plus a catalysed filler – that is mixed on site to produce a pourable, filled grout for bonding steel bolts and reinforcing bars into drilled or cast holes. The “S” denotes the small-aggregate (fine-filled) version, recommended where the difference between hole diameter and bar diameter is less than 25 mm; the “40” denotes its nominal 40-minute pot/gel life at 20 degC, which gives crews a comfortable working window in temperate to moderately warm conditions. Once cured, the resin produces a dense, high-strength, non-shrink anchorage that gains useful load capacity far faster than cementitious alternatives. For Indian projects, Lokfix S40 occupies the gap between hammer-in mechanical anchors (limited capacity, edge-distance sensitive) and slower cementitious anchor grouts: it sets fast, tolerates damp and submerged holes, resists vibration loosening, and is non-expansive so it can be used closer to slab and beam edges without splitting the concrete. Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies Lokfix S40 across Delhi NCR and Pan-India as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, pairing the material with correct hole preparation, embedment design and quality checks.
The technical insight
The performance of any resin anchor is governed by the weakest of three links – the resin, the steel, and the surrounding substrate – and Lokfix S40 is formulated so that, in sound concrete, failure is rarely in the grout. After the minimum time before loading, the cured grout typically exceeds 20 N/mm2 compressive strength, climbing to roughly 75 N/mm2 at 3 hours, 85 N/mm2 at 1 day and 90 N/mm2 at 7 days, with an ultimate value near 95 MPa at 28 days (tested to BS 6319 Part 2). It develops about 30 N/mm2 shear, 14 N/mm2 tensile and 32 N/mm2 flexural strength (BS 6319 Part 3), and complies with the relevant requirements of EN 1504-6 for the anchoring of reinforcing steel. Because the system is filled (specific gravity around 1.9 g/cc for the S grade), it bridges the annular gap economically and resists creep better than unfilled resins at normal service temperatures. Two temperature truths drive correct use: gel time shortens sharply as it warms – roughly 40 minutes at 20 degC, about 15 minutes at 30 degC and only ~7 minutes at 40 degC – so on a hot Indian afternoon the working window collapses; and at sustained service temperatures above 40 degC the cured resin can creep under load, so Lokfix S40 is not the right choice for permanently hot or fire-exposed structural anchors. Bond is built mechanically into a rough, dust-free hole – rotary-percussive drilling with air or water flushing is specified, and smooth diamond-drilled holes should be under-reamed to key the resin.
Where it is used
- Anchoring foundation bolts, holding-down (HD) bolts and machine base-plate fixings
- Installing reinforcement starter bars and dowel bars into existing concrete (rebar post-installation)
- Fixing balustrades, handrails, crash barriers, guard rails and safety fencing into concrete or masonry
- Securing railway track fixings and base plates subject to repetitive vibration loading
- Setting tie-back anchors, rock anchors and ground anchors for towers, cranes and retaining works
- Anchoring bolts and bars into damp, humid or even submerged holes where cementitious grouts struggle
- Edge-of-slab and edge-of-beam fixings where a non-expansive anchor is needed to avoid splitting
Key advantages
- Rapid strength gain – loadable in hours, with high early compressive strength for fast-track programmes
- High ultimate strength (~90-95 N/mm2 compressive) giving robust, high-capacity anchorages
- Non-expansive – no bursting pressure, so it suits fixings close to concrete edges and corners
- Vibration resistant – well suited to machinery bases, rail fixings and dynamically loaded anchors
- Corrosion resistant and chemically resistant to fresh/salt water, oils, fuels and most acids and alkalis
- Can be placed in damp, humid and underwater holes where cementitious anchor grouts are unreliable
- Pre-measured packs remove on-site batching error – mix the whole pack for consistent, reproducible results
- Complies with EN 1504-6, supporting specification on structural rebar-anchoring projects
Limitations & considerations
- Creep risk: at sustained service temperatures above 40 degC the cured resin can creep under load – not for permanently hot environments
- Not for fire-rated structural anchors – resin anchors should not be relied on where load-bearing capacity must survive fire conditions
- Short working window in heat: gel time falls to ~15 min at 30 degC and ~7 min at 40 degC, demanding fast placement in Indian summers
- Flammable – flash point about 29 degC; needs ventilation, no naked flames and no smoking during use
- Bond depends entirely on hole quality – smooth, dusty or wet-slurry-filled holes drastically reduce capacity
- Do not mix partial packs – the catalysed pack is pre-proportioned and part-mixing gives unreliable cure
- ‘S’ grade is intended for annular gaps under 25 mm; wider gaps call for the large-aggregate Lokfix L grade
- Below 5 degC, cure slows significantly and Fosroc advice should be sought before use
Selection & best practice
Design the embedment depth and hole diameter first (per BS 8110 / project code and the Lokfix hole-depth tables), then drill with a rotary-percussive rig and flush the hole with oil-free air or water until dust-free; under-ream any diamond-drilled holes. Degrease bars and remove flaky rust. In hot weather, store packs in shade, keep them below 25 degC, mix only what can be placed within the temperature-adjusted gel time, and stage labour so each hole is filled and the bar inserted promptly. Mix a complete pack to a uniform colour, pour steadily into the hole, then press and lightly agitate the bar to full depth to expel air and ensure a complete bond; leave it undisturbed until set and respect the minimum time before loading for that temperature. Apply a safety factor of at least 1.5 on non-critical and 2.0 on critical anchors, and clean tools within the pot life using the recommended Fosroc solvent.

How we position Fosroc Lokfix S40
Within the Fosroc anchoring range, Lokfix S40 is the fast-setting, fine-aggregate polyester workhorse for tight annular-gap fixings. Step up to Lokfix L for wider gaps (25-50 mm), choose the thixotropic Lokfix P grade for overhead and horizontal holes, or move to Lokfix EP (epoxy) when you need greater chemical resistance and better high-temperature/creep performance. Where the application is grouting under base plates rather than anchoring bars, Fosroc’s cementitious grouts (Conbextra GP2/HF) or epoxy grout Conbextra EP are the correct companions, and Nitoprime/Nitobond products handle related substrate preparation and bonding. Against the wider Indian market, Lokfix S40 competes directly with Sika AnchorFix and Sika Icosit chemical anchors, MBS (formerly BASF Master Builders) MasterFlow/MasterFix resin anchors, STP/Choksey resin capsule and injection anchors, and Hilti’s HIT injection systems; Dr. Fixit is a credible name in waterproofing and repair but is less of a direct player in structural resin anchoring. Lokfix S40’s pitch is honest and specific: fast, non-expansive, vibration- and water-tolerant polyester anchoring with EN 1504-6 backing – best where speed and damp-hole tolerance matter, and best avoided where service temperatures run hot or fire ratings are required, in which cases an epoxy or cementitious system should be specified instead.
