What is it?

Fosroc Lokfix TR is a range of high-strength threaded rods (anchor studs) in carbon steel grades 5.8 and 8.8 and stainless steel grades A4-50 and A4-70, supplied in diameters from M8 to M30 as the load-bearing element of a chemically anchored fixing.

Where is it used?

Used for post-installed structural fixings into concrete, masonry and rock — steel beam/column base plates, machine and pump foundations, pipe and cable-tray supports, gusset and insert plates, handrails, guard rails and heavy-duty ladders.

Why use it?

It is the matched, code-compliant stud for the Lokfix resin system, giving documented tensile and shear capacities (IS 1367) so engineers can size anchors in design software instead of relying on generic off-the-shelf rod.

How is it applied?

A hole is drilled and cleaned to the specified diameter and embedment, Lokfix E/P/S resin is injected, and the Lokfix TR stud is inserted and left to cure before fitting the washer and nut to the stated tightening torque.

About Fosroc Lokfix TR

Fosroc Lokfix TR is not a resin or a grout in itself — it is the steel that carries the load in a chemically anchored connection. It is the family of high-strength threaded rods (studs) that Fosroc supplies as the matched, system-tested component for its Lokfix chemical anchoring range. In a post-installed anchor, the bond strength of the injected resin and the steel strength of the stud have to be considered together; specifying a random hardware-store threaded rod alongside a quality resin defeats the purpose, because the connection is only ever as reliable as its weakest, least-documented part. Lokfix TR removes that uncertainty by giving the designer a stud with declared grade, declared mechanical properties to Indian Standard, and published tensile and shear capacities that drop straight into anchor design software.

The range is offered in four variants so the right balance of strength, corrosion resistance and cost can be chosen. Lokfix TR5 is carbon steel of property class 5.8; Lokfix TR8 is the higher-strength 8.8 carbon steel; Lokfix TRA450 is A4-50 austenitic stainless; and Lokfix TRA470 is the higher-strength A4-70 stainless. Carbon-steel studs are electro-zinc plated for indoor and protected conditions, while the A4 (316-type) stainless variants are specified where the fixing is exposed to weather, water, marine air, chlorides or aggressive chemicals. Diameters span M8 through M30, and studs are supplied cut to the required length complete with one nut and one washer as standard; non-standard lengths can be supplied to order.

For Space Arc Engineering’s customers across Delhi NCR and Pan-India — structural contractors, MEP firms, consultants and plant engineers — Lokfix TR is the part that makes a Fosroc anchored fixing auditable. When a third-party inspector or a structural consultant asks what stud was used and to what standard, “Fosroc Lokfix TR8 to IS 1367 Part 3” is a defensible answer in a way that “an 8.8 bolt from the market” is not.

The technical insight

The engineering value of Lokfix TR lies in its declared steel capacities, which let the steel-failure mode be checked independently of the resin bond and concrete cone. Fosroc publishes design tensile and shear capacities per diameter and grade. For tension, a 5.8 (TR5) M8 carries 12 kN rising to 187 kN at M30; the 8.8 (TR8) stud carries 19 kN at M8 up to 299 kN at M30. Stainless A4-50 (TRA450) ranges 6 kN (M8) to 98 kN (M30), and A4-70 (TRA470) 14 kN (M8) to 91 kN (M20), with the A4-70 range stopping at M24 (132 kN). Design shear capacities are correspondingly published — for example 8.8 gives 12 kN at M8 to 179 kN at M30. The underlying material properties follow IS 1367: class 5.8 has a minimum tensile strength of 520 N/mm² and yield around 400-420 N/mm²; class 8.8 has 800 N/mm² minimum tensile (830 N/mm² for d>16 mm) with 0.2% proof stress of 640 N/mm² and minimum 12% elongation. A4 stainless to IS 1367 Part 14 is rated at 500 N/mm² (A4-50) and 700 N/mm² (A4-70) minimum tensile. Carbon-steel studs carry an electroplated zinc coating of 5-12 microns per IS 1367 Part 11. The other half of the system is geometry: the TDS fixes, per diameter, the drill-bit size, standard embedment depth, washer thickness, nut height, across-flats and tightening torque — for instance an M16 stud uses an 18 mm bit, 125 mm embedment and 100 N·m torque, while M30 uses a 35 mm bit, 270 mm embedment and 300 N·m. Honouring those hole and embedment values is what makes the published capacities valid on site.

Where it is used

  • Anchoring steel structural beam and column base plates to concrete foundations and pedestals
  • Pump, motor and machinery foundation hold-down fixings subject to vibration and dynamic load
  • Pipe supports, cable-tray brackets and equipment skids in industrial and process plants
  • Fixing of insert plates, gusset plates and cleats for structural steel connections
  • Handrail, guard-rail, balustrade and gate post fixings on stairs, platforms and edges
  • Heavy-duty access ladders, cat-ladders and cage supports
  • Façade, canopy and cladding support brackets where a clean post-installed fixing is required
  • Retrofit and strengthening works where holes are drilled into existing hardened concrete or masonry

Key advantages

  • Matched, system-tested stud for the Lokfix resin range — removes the guesswork of pairing resin with unknown threaded rod
  • Published design tensile and shear capacities per diameter and grade that feed directly into anchor design software
  • Manufactured and declared to Indian Standard IS 1367 (Parts 3, 11 and 14), supporting QA/QC and third-party inspection
  • Four grades (5.8, 8.8, A4-50, A4-70) let the designer trade strength, corrosion resistance and cost for the specific exposure
  • A4 stainless variants give high corrosion resistance for external, wet, marine or chemically exposed fixings
  • Wide diameter range M8 to M30 covers light bracketry through to heavy machine and structural base-plate fixings
  • Supplied cut-to-length with nut and washer; custom lengths available to order, reducing site cutting and waste
  • Clear installation data (drill bit, embedment, torque) per size for repeatable, code-valid installation

Limitations & considerations

  • Lokfix TR is only the steel stud — it must be installed with a compatible Lokfix chemical anchor resin (E-series, P or S); it does not bond on its own
  • Published capacities are the steel-strength limit only; the governing design value also depends on resin bond strength, concrete grade, edge distance, spacing and cracked/uncracked condition
  • A4-70 (TRA470) high-strength stainless is offered only up to M24; above this, use A4-50 or carbon-steel grades
  • Zinc-plated carbon-steel grades (5.8, 8.8) are not suitable for permanently wet, external or chloride-rich exposure — specify A4 stainless instead
  • Stainless A4-50/A4-70 has lower strength than 8.8 carbon steel at the same diameter, so larger studs or deeper embedment may be needed for equivalent load
  • Performance depends on correct hole diameter, depth, cleaning and cure of the resin per the relevant Lokfix TDS; under-cured or dusty holes reduce capacity
  • Studs must be stored dry to prevent early rusting of plated carbon steel before installation
  • Galvanic compatibility with the resin, fixture and any dissimilar metals should be checked for long-term durability

Selection & best practice

Select the Lokfix TR grade by exposure first, then by load: use TR5/TR8 (zinc-plated carbon steel) for dry internal fixings and TRA450/TRA470 (A4 stainless) for external, wet, marine or chemically exposed conditions. Pair the stud only with a Lokfix resin rated for the substrate and condition — Lokfix E-series epoxy for high-load and threaded-rod work, Lokfix P or S for general duty. Drill and clean the hole to the exact diameter and standard embedment shown for that size (for example M16 = 18 mm bit, 125 mm embedment), brush and blow the hole free of dust, inject resin from the base of the hole, insert the stud with a twisting motion to wet the threads, and allow the full resin cure time before loading. Fit the supplied washer and nut and tighten to the stated torque (e.g. 100 N·m for M16). Always size the connection with Fosroc anchor design software or a qualified engineer’s check, accounting for concrete grade, edge distance, spacing and whether the concrete is cracked, rather than reading the steel capacity in isolation.

Frequently asked questions

Is Fosroc Lokfix TR a chemical anchor resin or a threaded rod?
It is the threaded rod (anchor stud), not the resin. Lokfix TR is the high-strength steel that carries the load and is installed together with a Lokfix chemical anchor resin such as the Lokfix E-series, Lokfix P or Lokfix S. The two are designed to work as one system.
What grades and sizes does Lokfix TR come in?
Four grades: TR5 (carbon steel 5.8), TR8 (carbon steel 8.8), TRA450 (stainless A4-50) and TRA470 (stainless A4-70). All are available in diameters from M8 to M30, supplied cut to length with a nut and washer; custom lengths can be supplied to order.
When should I use the stainless A4 grades instead of carbon steel?
Use TRA450 or TRA470 stainless wherever the fixing is exposed to weather, water, marine air, chlorides or chemicals — for example water-treatment plants, external steelwork or coastal sites. The zinc-plated carbon-steel grades (TR5, TR8) suit dry, internal, protected conditions.
To what standards is Lokfix TR manufactured?
The carbon-steel grades comply with IS 1367 Part 3 for chemical and mechanical properties and IS 1367 Part 11 for electroplating; the stainless A4 grades comply with IS 1367 Part 14. Each diameter has published design tensile and shear capacities for use in anchor design.
Can I just use the published steel capacity to size my anchor?
No. The steel capacities are only the steel-failure limit. The governing design value also depends on the resin bond strength, concrete grade, embedment, edge distance, spacing and whether the concrete is cracked. Always size the full anchor using Fosroc anchor design software or a qualified engineer.
What is the correct way to install a Lokfix TR stud?
Drill and clean the hole to the exact diameter and standard embedment given for that size, blow and brush out the dust, inject the Lokfix resin from the base of the hole, insert the stud with a twisting motion, let the resin fully cure, then fit the washer and nut and tighten to the stated torque (for example 100 N·m for M16).

How we position Fosroc Lokfix TR

Within the Fosroc system, Lokfix TR is the steel partner to the Lokfix resin family — most commonly the Lokfix E-series epoxy anchors (such as Lokfix E55, E75 and the current E77) for high-load threaded-rod work, and Lokfix P and Lokfix S for general-duty fixings. It sits alongside Fosroc’s broader anchoring and grouting range, including Conbextra cementitious grouts for base-plate bedding and machine grouting and Nitobond bonding agents, so a contractor can source the stud, the resin and the grout from one specified system. Compared with buying a generic 8.8 or A4 threaded rod from the open market, Lokfix TR’s advantage is documentation: declared grade, IS 1367 compliance and published capacities that make the fixing auditable. Credible alternative systems in the Indian market include Hilti’s HIT injection anchors with HAS/HIT-V studs (the international benchmark for ETA-approved chemical anchoring), Sika’s SikaAnchorFix range with matched studs, Bostik/Bolt and Würth anchoring systems, and domestic resins from suppliers such as STP, Dr. Fixit (Pidilite) and MBS (MYK) — though these vary in the rigour of their published stud data. Where a project specification names Fosroc, or where the resin and grout are already Fosroc, Lokfix TR is the consistent, code-referenced choice. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, Space Arc Engineering supplies Lokfix TR with the matched Lokfix resin and supporting design data across Delhi NCR and Pan-India.
