What is it?

A four-component, pre-weighed epoxy screed (resin, hardener, black paste and graded aggregate) that self-levels into a hard, impervious 2 mm-plus underlay over concrete.

Where is it used?

Under high-build epoxy and PU floors in pharmaceutical units, laboratories, assembly lines, automobile plants, warehouses and other manufacturing facilities.

Why use it?

It corrects undulations and closes the surface in one pass, giving the finish coat a flat, sound, low-porosity base and cutting the risk of pinholes and telegraphing.

How is it applied?

Prime the prepared floor with ShaliPrime 2E, machine-mix the four components, lay to a minimum 2 mm DFT with a notched steel trowel while the primer is tacky, then de-aerate with a spike roller.

About STP ShaliFloor Screed

STP ShaliFloor Screed is the levelling layer that most industrial epoxy and polyurethane floors quietly depend on. It is a four-component, factory pre-weighed system built from epoxy resin, a hardener, a pigmented black component and a large charge of selected graded aggregate and fillers. Mixed together in the supplied ratio of 2:2:83:13 by weight, they trowel out into a self-levelling screed that sets to a hard, semi-smooth, impervious surface with strong adhesion to the substrate below. Because the aggregate does the bulk of the work, the screed builds thickness economically while still developing genuine structural strength rather than acting as a mere filler.

On Indian sites, the real value of this product is what it lets you build on top of. A high-build epoxy or PU topcoat is only as flat and as sound as the floor beneath it, and most existing concrete is neither. ShaliFloor Screed levels out undulations, bridges minor surface defects and forms a moisture-holding barrier that can even be laid over damp or green concrete within acceptable limits — a genuine advantage in humid or fast-track conditions. Once cured, it takes any epoxy or polyurethane finish, so it slots cleanly into the flooring systems specified for pharma, food, automobile and general manufacturing floors. As an authorised STP distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, Space Arc supplies the screed with the matching primers, sealants and topcoats so the whole build-up comes from one compatible family.

The technical insight

The screed works because it is engineered as a highly aggregate-loaded epoxy mortar rather than a neat resin. At an 83% aggregate charge by weight, the epoxy binder is spread thin across a dense, graded particle skeleton — that is what gives a mixed density of roughly 2.2 gm/cc and lets the material develop over 50 N/mm² compressive strength while remaining cost-effective to build up in millimetres. The self-levelling behaviour comes from the flow of the wet mortar under its own weight before the epoxy gels, which is why de-aerating with a spike roller and respecting the 40–50 minute pot life matter so much: work it too long and you fight a stiffening mix. Adhesion is the other half of the story. Laid into a tacky ShaliPrime coat on a mechanically abraded, slightly textured substrate, the resin keys chemically to the primer and mechanically to the roughened concrete, giving a bond to concrete above 2 N/mm² — comfortably beyond the tensile strength of most sound concrete, so failure, if it ever occurs, tends to be in the substrate, not the bond line.

Where it is used

  • Levelling and flattening concrete floors before an epoxy screed, epoxy topping or coating is applied
  • Renovating uneven, worn or repaired industrial concrete floors to a true plane
  • Building a sound, low-porosity base under anti-static, self-smoothing or high-build epoxy systems
  • Screeding over damp or green concrete where a conventional cementitious level would be at risk
  • Overlaying mixed substrates such as cement, kota stone and marble in assembly and process areas
  • Floor build-up in pharmaceutical, laboratory and clean-process rooms demanding a hygienic base
  • Preparing warehouse, logistics and distribution-centre floors for a durable resin finish
  • Base course under floors in automobile plants and general manufacturing units

Key advantages

  • Self-levelling action produces a flat, semi-smooth plane that flatters the finish coat above it
  • High aggregate loading gives real strength — over 50 N/mm² compressive at 28 days — at an economical build cost
  • Tolerant of damp and green concrete within limits, so it suits humid sites and faster programmes
  • Pre-weighed four-component packs remove site batching guesswork and keep the mix ratio consistent
  • Impervious, moisture-holding barrier that helps protect subsequent resin layers
  • Strong bond to concrete (>2 N/mm²) and good adhesion to varied substrates like kota, marble and cement
  • Accepts any epoxy or polyurethane topcoat, so it fits into most specified flooring systems
  • Seamless, hygienic and easy to clean, with good resistance to a wide range of chemicals

Limitations & considerations

  • It is an underlay, not a finish — a separate epoxy or PU topcoat is required for final wear and appearance
  • Minimum 2 mm dry-film thickness must be maintained; it is not a feather-edge skim coat
  • Must not be applied to asphalt, weak or infirm concrete, unmodified sand/cement screeds, PVC tiles or moving substrates like steel walkways
  • Cannot be laid over treated expansion joints — those must be handled separately with a sealant such as ShaliSeal PS PG
  • Working window is short (40–50 minute pot life at 30°C), so bays must be sized to what can be laid and rolled in time
  • Substrate and ambient temperature must stay between about +10°C and +40°C, which needs managing on hot or cold sites

Selection & best practice

Success with ShaliFloor Screed is decided before any resin is mixed. Prepare the concrete mechanically — grinding, iron brush, sandblasting or compressed air — to remove laitance, old paint, oil and loose material, and leave the surface slightly textured for grip. Confirm substrate moisture is within limits (up to ~8%) and prime with ShaliPrime 2E, 2E SF or LC. Machine-mix the components strictly in the supplied 2:2:83:13 sequence: blend hardener into the black component, add the base, then fold in the aggregate under continuous agitation for three to five minutes until homogeneous, and let it stand briefly so entrapped air escapes. Divide the floor into bays no larger than you can lay within the pot life, place the screed into the still-tacky primer with a notched steel trowel, anchor it at walls, columns, trenches and joints, and pass a long-handled spike roller over it to release air — without dwelling long enough to leave marks. Allow 20–24 hours before topcoating and check with a moisture meter that surface moisture has fallen to about 1–3%. Clean all tools immediately with STP Thinner before the material hardens.

Its tolerance of damp and green concrete lets levelling proceed on moisture-prone or time-pressured projects.

Frequently asked questions

Is ShaliFloor Screed a finished floor on its own?
No. It is a levelling underlay that gives you a flat, hard, low-porosity base. You still need an epoxy or polyurethane topcoat over it for the final wear surface, colour and appearance.
Can I really apply it over damp or green concrete?
Yes, within limits. Unlike many resin products it can be laid over damp, moist or green concrete provided the substrate moisture stays within acceptable parameters (up to about 8%). Always confirm with a moisture meter before you start.
How much material do I need per square metre?
Theoretical consumption is about 4.4 ± 0.2 kg/m² for a 2 mm layer. That figure excludes extra material for surface porosity, profile, level variation and wastage, so allow a margin on rough or uneven floors.
What thickness should I lay it at?
A minimum of 2 mm dry-film thickness is recommended. It is designed to build millimetres of level, not to feather out to a zero edge, so plan your datum accordingly.
How long before I can apply the topcoat?
Top coating should follow after about 20–24 hours, once surface moisture has dropped to roughly 1–3% on a moisture meter. Foot traffic is possible in 22–26 hours, vehicle traffic after 3 days, and full cure at 14 days.
Which primer and joint sealant should I use with it?
Prime with STP ShaliPrime 2E, 2E SF or LC, and treat expansion joints separately with ShaliSeal PS PG — never screed straight over a treated joint. Space Arc can supply the full compatible system.

How we position STP ShaliFloor Screed

ShaliFloor Screed sits at the base of the STP ShaliFloor system: pair it with a ShaliPrime 2E / 2E SF / LC primer, seal moving joints with ShaliSeal PS PG, and finish with an STP epoxy or polyurethane topcoat to complete the floor. Where a client prefers a self-levelling underlay in a cementitious chemistry, STP’s own ShaliFloor SL UL 3 EC (epoxy-cement composite) is the sibling to consider. If the specification calls for a single Fosroc build-up rather than a mixed-brand system, Space Arc also supplies Fosroc’s flooring range, and for thinner one-shot finishes we can advise on Sika, MC-Bauchemie and Master Builders Solutions epoxy floors alongside our STP offer — chosen on merit for the substrate and service conditions rather than by brand.

Preferred brand · Fosroc equivalent

Fosroc Nitoflor SL2000 — A specifier wanting the whole floor in one Fosroc system may choose this flow-applied self-smoothing epoxy, which levels and finishes in a single build rather than needing a separate STP underlay plus topcoat.
