What is it?

A two-pack, solvent-less, water-based polyamine-modified epoxy coating (formerly ShaliPoxy WB) that cures to a tough, abrasion- and chemical-resistant matt film on floors and walls.

Where is it used?

Food processing plants and dairies, warehouse floors, chemical and manufacturing plants, reservoirs, and any occupied area where a solvent-based coating is not permitted.

Why use it?

It releases no solvent into the air, is non-flammable and non-toxic, and its CFTRI/US FDA-tested finish makes it safe for food-contact environments while still resisting wear and mild chemicals.

How is it applied?

Mix Component A and B with a slow-speed drill, apply a self-priming coat by brush or roller over prepared concrete, then a second coat to reach 100-130 microns DFT at roughly 200 gm/m2 total.

About STP ShaliFloor TC WB 2E

STP ShaliFloor TC WB 2E is the water-based member of STP’s ShaliFloor epoxy family, and it exists to solve a specific problem on Indian sites: how to protect a concrete floor with epoxy when the building is occupied, poorly ventilated, or handling food and pharma products where solvent fumes are unacceptable. It is a two-component, solvent-less, polyamine-modified epoxy that was previously sold as ShaliPoxy WB. Because water carries the resin instead of solvent, the coating goes on with a very low odour and no flammable vapour, yet it still cures into a hard, abrasion-resistant film that stands up to foot and wheel traffic, mild acids, alkalis and oils.

What sets this product apart from ordinary solvent-based epoxies is its tolerance of moisture. It is self-priming, can be applied to a damp concrete substrate, and can even be laid on green concrete immediately after shuttering is removed, where it doubles as a curing membrane. This makes it a practical choice for fast-track projects and for surfaces that cannot be fully dried out. It is CFTRI-tested to the US FDA 21 CFR 175-300 method, comes in a range of colours with a matt finish, and is supplied in a convenient 5 kg unit. For engineers specifying floors in dairies, cold stores, warehouses and process plants, it offers a genuinely low-hazard route to a durable epoxy surface.

The technical insight

The performance of ShaliFloor TC WB 2E comes from its water-dispersed polyamine-modified epoxy chemistry. In a conventional epoxy the resin is thinned with solvent that must flash off before the film hardens, which both fills the air with fumes and demands a bone-dry substrate. Here the epoxy resin is emulsified in water; as the water evaporates and the polyamine hardener reacts with the epoxy groups, the dispersed particles coalesce and cross-link into a continuous film. Because the carrier is water rather than solvent, the coating is compatible with residual moisture in the slab and can breathe during cure, which is why it can be applied to damp or freshly struck concrete without blistering. That same breathability lets it act as a curing compound, sealing moisture into green concrete while it develops strength, and helps release air from porous substrates so bubbles do not form in any epoxy topping applied later. The cured matrix is dense and chemically stable, giving the hard, wear-resistant, mildew-resisting surface that process floors need, while the absence of solvent keeps the whole operation non-flammable and low-toxicity.

Where it is used

  • Food processing plants, dairies and cold stores needing an FDA-tested, low-odour floor finish
  • Warehouse and distribution-centre floors carrying regular foot and wheel traffic
  • Chemical and manufacturing plant floors exposed to mild acids, alkalis and oils
  • Water reservoirs and other damp concrete structures
  • Occupied buildings such as hospitals, kitchens and offices where solvent coatings are not permitted
  • Green concrete slabs immediately after de-shuttering, where it works as a combined seal and curing coat
  • Walls and floors in chemically sensitive or hygiene-critical environments
  • Porous substrates that need sealing before a heavier epoxy topping is applied

Key advantages

  • Water-based, so it releases no solvent into the air and is safe to use in occupied and enclosed spaces
  • Very low odour and non-flammable, reducing site hazard and downtime
  • CFTRI-tested to US FDA 21 CFR 175-300, suitable for food-contact areas
  • Self-priming and moisture-tolerant, applicable to damp concrete and even freshly struck slabs
  • Doubles as a curing compound on green concrete, saving a separate application step
  • Tough, abrasion-resistant matt finish that withstands foot and wheel traffic
  • Non-toxic and mildew-resisting, with good resistance to mild chemicals
  • Available in a range of colours in a handy 5 kg unit

Limitations & considerations

  • Not for surfaces suffering rising damp, osmosis risk, or relative humidity above 75%
  • Cannot be applied to asphalt, weak or infirm concrete, unmodified sand/cement screeds, or PVC tiles and sheets
  • Unsuitable for substrates that move substantially, such as steel walkways
  • Chemical resistance covers only mild acids, alkalis and oils, not aggressive or concentrated chemicals
  • Some light shade change may occur over time in adverse exposure, though it does not affect performance
  • Needs concrete cured at least 28 days with moisture below 5% for full-strength bonding

Selection & best practice

Prepare the concrete by mechanical grinding to give a slightly textured surface, then remove all dust, flakes, oil, grease and old paint by sandblasting, wire brush, surface grinder or compressed air. New concrete should be cured at least 28 days with moisture content below 5%, and relative humidity must not exceed 75%. Mix Component A (resin) and Component B (hardener) with a slow-speed drill fitted with a spiral blade at around 1000 rpm until homogeneous, then let the mix stand briefly so entrapped air can escape. Apply the first self-priming coat by brush or roller and allow it to dry, then apply the second coat, keeping the ambient temperature between 10 degrees C and 40 degrees C. Respect the recoat window of minimum 8 hours and maximum 24 hours, and target a total dry film thickness of 100-130 microns at roughly 200 gm/m2 over two coats. Allow foot traffic after 24 hours and wheel traffic after 7 days. Wear gloves and eye protection, ensure good ventilation, and never use solvent to clean the coating off skin.

Industry use cases

Food & Dairy Processing

Its low odour and CFTRI/FDA-tested film let dairies, cold stores and food plants recoat floors without shutting down or exposing product to solvent fumes.

Warehousing & Logistics

The abrasion-resistant surface handles constant pallet-truck and forklift movement, and can be laid over damp slabs to keep fast-track fit-outs on schedule.

Frequently asked questions

Is ShaliFloor TC WB 2E the same as the old ShaliPoxy WB?
Yes. ShaliFloor TC WB 2E is the current STP name for the product formerly sold as ShaliPoxy WB. The chemistry, a two-component water-based polyamine-modified epoxy, is unchanged.
Can it really be applied to damp or freshly cast concrete?
Yes. Because it is water-based and breathable, it tolerates damp substrates and can be applied to concrete immediately after shuttering is removed, where it also acts as a curing compound. It should not be used, however, where relative humidity exceeds 75% or rising damp is present.
How much coating do I need per square metre?
The theoretical coverage is about 200 gm/m2 to build 100-130 microns DFT over two coats, though actual consumption depends on the porosity and roughness of the concrete.
Is it safe for food-processing floors?
It has been tested by CFTRI to the US FDA 21 CFR 175-300 method and is non-toxic and low-odour, making it appropriate for dairies, food plants and cold stores when correctly applied and fully cured.
What pack size does it come in and how long does it store?
It is supplied as a 5 kg unit packed in a 10 kg carton. Stored cool, dry and under shade, the shelf life is 12 months in original unopened sealed containers.
When can traffic go on the finished floor?
Foot traffic is allowed after 24 hours and wheel traffic after 7 days, provided the coating is applied between 10 and 40 degrees C and the recoat window of 8 to 24 hours is respected.
