What is it?

A 2K solvent-free (100% solid) pigmented epoxy floor coating from STP, formerly sold as ShaliPoxy SLC, building roughly 300 microns per coat.

Where is it used?

Hygiene-critical and dust-free industrial floors: pharma plants, food and bottling lines, hospital OTs, labs, electronics rooms, dairies and breweries.

Why use it?

Zero-VOC chemistry, a CFTRI/FDA-tested non-porous surface, and enough mechanical strength to take nylon and rubber-wheeled traffic.

How is it applied?

Prime the prepared, dry concrete with ShaliPrime 2E, then brush or roller-apply the mixed epoxy to build the coating film.

About STP ShaliFloor TC 2HB SF

ShaliFloor TC 2HB SF is STP’s two-component, solvent-free high-build epoxy floor coating, carrying forward the product many older specifications still call ShaliPoxy SLC. It is a 100%-solid system, meaning nothing evaporates off as it cures and the full applied volume stays on the floor as film. A single coat builds close to 300 microns, so a specifier gets a genuinely thick, sealed surface without the multiple thin passes that solvent-borne paints demand. The cured film is smooth, non-porous and hygienic, and it has been tested by CFTRI against 21 CFR 175-300 of the US FDA method, which is why it turns up in food, pharma and healthcare briefs where surface cleanliness is audited rather than assumed.

For engineers and contractors, the appeal is that a fairly ordinary concrete floor becomes a hard-wearing, chemically resistant working surface with a modest labour footprint. The coating bonds not only to concrete but also to tiles and Kota stone, resists fungal and bacterial growth, and shrugs off dilute acids, alkalis and washdown regimes. Because it is solvent-free, it can be laid in enclosed and poorly ventilated spaces without the fire and inhalation exposure that solvent systems bring, and it suits the low-emission targets increasingly written into green-building and pharma-facility specifications.

The technical insight

The performance comes from the 100%-solid, high-build chemistry. Conventional solvent-borne floor paints deposit a thin film because 30-50% of what is applied flashes off as solvent, so build-up needs several coats and each coat carries VOC into the room. ShaliFloor TC 2HB SF carries no solvent, so the mixed resin and hardener cross-link in place and virtually all of the applied material becomes durable film — around 300 microns from one pass. That thickness is what delivers the sealed, non-porous surface: there are no interconnected pores for water (absorption is only 0.20% over 24 hours), chemicals or bacteria to colonise. The cross-linked epoxy network then supplies the mechanical numbers — 30 N/mm² compressive, 15 N/mm² flexural, 10 N/mm² tensile — and a strong grip to the substrate (1.5 N/mm² adhesion to concrete), which is what lets the floor carry industrial trolley traffic without chipping or delaminating at the bond line.

Where it is used

  • Chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing floors requiring a hygienic, washable surface
  • Food processing and bottling plants where FDA-referenced cleanliness is specified
  • Hospital operation theatres and healthcare clean areas
  • Laboratories and computer / server rooms needing dust-free floors
  • Electrical and electronics assembly areas
  • Dairies and breweries with regular wet cleaning
  • Aerospace units, airport hangars and nuclear plant floors
  • Potable water tanks and food storage areas where bacterial growth must be prevented

Key advantages

  • 100% solid, zero-VOC formulation that can be laid safely in enclosed spaces
  • Builds around 300 microns in a single coat, cutting the number of passes needed
  • Non-porous, hygienic film tested by CFTRI to 21 CFR 175-300 (US FDA)
  • Resistant to fungal and bacterial growth, suiting potable-water and food storage areas
  • Good chemical resistance to dilute acids, caustic soda and washdown regimes
  • Bonds strongly to concrete and also to tiles and Kota stone
  • Good abrasion resistance for nylon and rubber-wheeled industrial traffic
  • Very low water absorption (0.20% over 24 hours) for a well-sealed surface

Limitations & considerations

  • A coating, not a screed or self-levelling underlay — it follows the profile of the concrete and will not correct undulations or falls
  • Chemical resistance is to the listed dilute reagents; not intended for concentrated acid attack, for which the acid-resistant grade is the correct choice
  • Requires a properly cured substrate (minimum 28 days) with moisture below 5% — laying over green or damp concrete risks blistering and debonding
  • Needs mechanical surface preparation and a ShaliPrime 2E primer coat; it is not a paint-over-old-paint solution
  • Short pot life of about 40 minutes at 30°C, so mixed material must be used promptly
  • Colour may vary slightly between production batches, so a single batch should be used for any continuous visible area

Selection & best practice

Success depends on the substrate. Grind the concrete mechanically to open a slightly textured profile, then strip dust, laitance, oil and old paint by sand-blasting, wire brushing or compressed air. The slab must be at least 28 days cured with moisture content below 5% and fully dry before priming. Prime with ShaliPrime 2E and allow 6-8 hours until touch-dry. Mix Component A and Component B with a spiral-blade drill stirrer at around 1000 rpm until fully homogeneous, then let the mix stand briefly so entrapped air escapes. Apply by brush or roller onto the primed surface. Because pot life is only about 40 minutes at 30°C, mix in workable batches. Keep foot traffic off for the first day and hold heavy/full traffic back for 5-6 days. Clean tools immediately with Xylene before the resin hardens, and work in goggles and gloves throughout.

Frequently asked questions

What is the coverage of ShaliFloor TC 2HB SF?
The theoretical coverage is 2.5 m2 per kg per coat, building a film of around 300 microns. Actual consumption rises on rough or porous concrete, so allow extra material for uneven substrates.
How long before we can use the floor?
Light foot traffic is possible after about 1 day. Full or heavy traffic should be held back for 5 to 6 days to let the epoxy develop its complete strength.
Does it need a primer?
Yes. The prepared concrete should be primed with ShaliPrime 2E and allowed to reach touch-dry (about 6 to 8 hours) before the coating is brush or roller applied.
Is it safe for food-contact and potable-water areas?
It has been tested by CFTRI to 21 CFR 175-300 of the US FDA method and resists bacterial and fungal growth, which makes it suitable for food storage areas and potable water tanks.
What condition does the concrete need to be in?
The slab must be cured for at least 28 days with moisture content below 5%, mechanically prepared to a slightly textured, clean profile, and fully dry before priming.
What pack size does it come in and how long does it store?
It is supplied as a 16 kg carton made up of four 4 kg tins containing Components A and B, with a shelf life of 12 months in the original unopened sealed packing.

How we position STP ShaliFloor TC 2HB SF

ShaliFloor TC 2HB SF is the go-to STP coating when the brief calls for a hygienic, dust-free, chemically resistant floor at a sensible film build. Where the environment sees concentrated or aggressive acids, step up within the same STP family to ShaliFloor TC 2 ARE, the acid-resistant grade. It is always laid over STP’s ShaliPrime 2E primer, and where the client wants a thicker, flow-applied seamless finish rather than a coating, STP’s self-levelling epoxy toppings are the natural upgrade. Across our other brands, buyers comparing solvent-free epoxy floors often weigh this against Fosroc’s Nitoflor coating line and MC-Bauchemie / Master Builders Solutions industrial flooring — we can specify like-for-like from any of them depending on chemical duty, film thickness and budget.

Preferred brand · Fosroc equivalent

Fosroc Nitoflor FC150 — Choose FC150 when the specification calls for a Fosroc-branded, higher-build coating — it is roller-applied in two coats to a minimum 400-micron film for wet, wash-down industrial floors.
