STP ShaliFloor TC 2 ARE
A two-component, 100% solids epoxy coating that shields concrete and steel floors from strong acids, alkalis and severe chemical spillage.
What is it?
A two-pack, solvent-free (100% solids) epoxy floor coating from STP, engineered specifically to resist attack from acids, alkalis and aggressive process chemicals.
Where is it used?
Chemical process floors, acid charging and battery rooms, pickling and electroplating bays, fertiliser and pharma plants, and around acid storage tanks and pumps.
Why use it?
It forms a dense, chemically inert film that stops acids and effluent from etching and disintegrating the concrete or corroding steel underneath.
How is it applied?
Brush- or roller-applied in two coats over prepared, dry substrate at roughly 350-400 g/m2 total, building a 250-275 micron film.
About STP ShaliFloor TC 2 ARE
STP ShaliFloor TC 2 ARE (formerly marketed as ShaliPoxy AR) is a room-temperature-cured, two-component epoxy coating built for one job: keeping aggressive chemicals from eating into your floor. In plants that handle acids, caustics or process effluent, bare concrete simply does not last. Sulphuric or hydrochloric spillage reacts with the cement matrix, spalling the surface and exposing reinforcement, while untreated steel corrodes fast. This coating lays down a continuous, 100% solids barrier film that the chemicals cannot easily penetrate, so the structural substrate stays intact and the floor remains serviceable for years rather than months.
Because it carries zero solvent, the full 100% of the applied material becomes the protective film, with no shrinkage or pinholing from evaporating carriers. The system cures at ambient temperature into a hard, semi-gloss, monolithic surface that is easy to wash down and inspect, in either light grey or dark grey. Space Arc Engineering supplies ShaliFloor TC 2 ARE as an authorised STP distributor and can also execute the surface preparation and application through our applicator teams across Delhi NCR and pan-India, so specifiers get both the genuine material and a warranted install from a single point of contact.
The technical insight
The chemistry that makes this coating work is the fully cross-linked epoxy-amine network. When Component A (epoxy resin) and Component B (hardener) are mixed in the correct ratio, the amine groups react with the epoxide rings to form a tight, three-dimensional polymer lattice. That dense lattice has very few reactive sites left exposed and very low porosity, which is precisely why strong acids, alkalis and solvents struggle to break it down or diffuse through it. Being a 100% solids formulation, there is no solvent to flash off and leave micro-voids, so the cured film is close to void-free and continuous, the single most important property for chemical containment. The film also bonds mechanically and chemically to a properly abraded concrete or shot-blasted steel surface, which is why substrate preparation (and keeping moisture below about 5%) matters so much: the barrier is only as good as its bond and its freedom from pinholes.
Where it is used
- Acid and alkali storage rooms, bund walls and containment floors in chemical plants
- Battery charging rooms and acid-handling bays where electrolyte spillage is routine
- Pickling, electroplating and metal-finishing shop floors
- Fertiliser manufacturing and handling areas exposed to aggressive salts and acids
- Pharmaceutical and fine-chemical production floors requiring a washable, inert surface
- Concrete plinths and floors around acid storage tanks, pumps and dosing skids
- Effluent and chemical treatment areas where concrete needs protection from attack
- Coating of new or old steel surfaces subjected to acids and bases
Key advantages
- Excellent resistance to a broad range of acids, alkalis and process chemicals
- 100% solids, solvent-free formulation gives a dense, near void-free protective film
- Cures at room temperature, so no external heat or special curing is needed
- Strong adhesion to both concrete and prepared steel substrates
- Forms a seamless, monolithic surface that is easy to clean, wash down and inspect
- Semi-gloss finish available in light grey and dark grey for good in-plant aesthetics
- Simple brush- or roller-application keeps labour and equipment requirements low
- Protects the structural substrate, extending floor life and cutting repair downtime
Limitations & considerations
- Not for surfaces suffering rising damp, osmosis risk or substrate humidity above 75%
- Substrate moisture must be below roughly 5%; damp concrete will compromise the bond
- Short pot life of about 30-45 minutes at 30 degrees C, so mix only what can be used quickly
- Surface preparation is demanding: grinding or shot-blasting and full removal of oil, dirt and unsound concrete are essential
- As a coating (250-275 micron film), it protects against spillage and splash but is not a thick screed for heavy mechanical impact or deep chemical immersion
- Full chemical and traffic cure takes up to 7 days, so the area must be programmed out of service accordingly
Selection & best practice
Success with ShaliFloor TC 2 ARE is decided at the surface-prep stage. Grind or shot-blast the concrete to an open, sound profile, make good any potholes, and confirm the substrate is even and dry, with moisture below about 5% and no risk of rising damp. Remove every trace of oil, grease, dirt, laitance and old paint; degrease steel and shot-blast new steel, or mechanically clean old steel, before coating. Mix Component A and B thoroughly in the supplied ratio and only prepare a quantity you can lay within the 30-45 minute pot life. Apply two coats by stiff-bristle brush or roller to reach the target 350-400 g/m2 and 250-275 micron dry film, respecting the overcoat window between coats. Protect the fresh coating from foot traffic for 24 hours, vehicle traffic for 72 hours, and allow up to 7 days for full chemical cure before exposing the floor to acids or effluent. Store unopened packs cool and dry and use within the 6-month shelf life.

How we position STP ShaliFloor TC 2 ARE
ShaliFloor TC 2 ARE sits in STP’s acid- and chemical-resistant flooring range and pairs naturally with other STP systems: use ShaliFloor 3 ES where the priority shifts to a solvent-free, abrasion-resistant self-levelling floor, or an STP self-levelling epoxy topping such as ShaliFloor SL TC where a thicker, monolithic finish is wanted. Where the exposure is milder and you only need a maintainable industrial coat rather than full acid resistance, a general-purpose epoxy floor coating is more cost-effective. For chemically loaded joints and bunds, combine with an STP chemical-resistant sealant. Across our other brands, specifiers weighing a heavy-duty PU alternative for hot, wet-process chemical areas can look at Fosroc Nitoflor polyurethane screeds, which hold up better under thermal cycling than any epoxy coating.
Fosroc Nitocote EP405 — Choose the Fosroc option when the job needs a certified 100% solids epoxy lining for immersion or potable-water and food-contact tanks rather than a spillage-resistant plant floor coating.
