STP ShaliTile Fix 200
A polymer-rich, single-component cementitious adhesive that carries bigger tiles and wetter areas than a basic thin-bed mortar — mixed on site with only water.
What is it?
A single-component, factory-blended cement-based tile adhesive from STP’s ShaliTile Fix range, carrying a higher polymer additive loading than the entry-level Fix 100 for stronger, more water-tolerant bonds.
Where is it used?
Interior and sheltered-exterior floors and walls — larger-format ceramic and vitrified tiles, bathrooms, balconies and other splash-prone areas over concrete, screed, plaster and masonry.
Why use it?
You get better grab and water resistance than a plain thin-set without moving to a premium C2 mortar — a practical middle grade for medium-to-large tiles where a basic adhesive would be marginal.
How is it applied?
Slake the powder with clean water using a slow-speed mixer, rest, then comb onto the prepared substrate with a notched trowel and bed the tile within the open time. No admixture or primer needed on sound backgrounds.
About STP ShaliTile Fix 200
STP ShaliTile Fix 200 is the step-up grade in STP Limited’s ShaliTile Fix family of cementitious tile adhesives. Like the rest of the range it is a single-component, pre-packed powder built from cement, graded silica sand and performance additives — but Fix 200 carries a noticeably higher polymer content than the base-grade Fix 100. That extra polymer is what changes the product’s character on site: it wets the back of the tile more thoroughly, tolerates damp and wet conditions better, and holds heavier, larger tiles in place while the bed cures. On the job you handle it exactly like a normal thin-bed mortar — add water, mix to a lump-free paste, comb it out and set the tile — so crews already fixing with cement adhesive need no new technique.
Where a basic thin-set is genuinely marginal — an oversized floor tile, a bathroom wall that will see constant splash, a sheltered balcony — Fix 200 is the sensible upgrade before you reach for a full high-performance grade. It sits deliberately between Fix 100 (the everyday small-format adhesive) and the premium Fix 300 / Fix 300 White and deformable Fix 400 grades that STP reserves for natural stone, full submersion and highly stressed installations. For the large volume of medium-to-large ceramic and vitrified work that Delhi-NCR and Pan-India contractors handle every day, Fix 200 hits a useful price-to-performance point: more security than the cheapest bag, without paying for capabilities the job doesn’t need.
The technical insight
A cement adhesive bonds two ways at once. The cement fraction hydrates and grips into the microscopic pores of the substrate and the tile’s biscuit — a rigid, mechanical key. The polymer fraction does something the cement cannot: as the mortar dries, the redispersible polymer forms a flexible film that bridges the cement crystals, so the hardened bed is less brittle and stays adhered even as the tile, adhesive and background expand and contract at slightly different rates. Raising the polymer loading, as Fix 200 does over Fix 100, directly improves three things buyers actually feel — tensile adhesion (the tile’s resistance to being pulled off), water resistance (the film keeps the bond from softening when saturated), and workability during the open time. It is the same principle that separates IS 15477 Type 1 adhesives from the polymer-modified Type 2 grades: not a different chemistry, but more of the ingredient that makes a cement bond behave less like brittle mortar and more like a resilient, water-durable glue.
Where it is used
- Fixing medium-to-large-format ceramic and vitrified floor tiles over concrete and cement screeds
- Wall tiling in bathrooms, WCs and utility areas where regular splashing demands better water resistance
- Tiling balconies, verandahs and other sheltered external surfaces not exposed to standing water
- Overlaying sound existing tiling or terrazzo where a stronger polymer grab is needed
- Interior commercial and residential floors in kitchens, corridors and wet lobbies
- Fixing tiles to cementitious plaster and masonry backgrounds in dry and damp interiors
- Thin-bed fixing where a full-bed sand-cement mortar is undesirable for weight or thickness reasons
Key advantages
- Higher polymer content than Fix 100, giving stronger adhesion and better water resistance
- Single-component powder — only clean water added on site, no separate liquid admixture to dose
- Thin-bed application keeps dead load and floor build-up low compared with thick mortar beds
- Factory-blended for batch-to-batch consistency, removing the guesswork of site-mixed cement mortar
- Handles larger and heavier tiles that a basic thin-set would struggle to hold during set
- Suitable for wet and damp interior areas as well as sheltered exteriors
- Familiar notched-trowel method — no retraining for crews already using cement adhesives
- Backed by STP’s ShaliTile system, with matching grouts and higher grades available for specialised work
Limitations & considerations
- Not the grade for natural stone — marble and granite can stain or need the non-staining Fix 300 White; specify a stone-rated adhesive instead
- Not intended for continuously submerged conditions such as swimming pools or water tanks; use a higher deformable/waterproof grade
- As a rigid-to-semi-rigid cement adhesive it is not a substitute for the deformable Fix 400 on substrates with significant movement or vibration
- Will not bond reliably to non-mineral surfaces such as metal, glass, timber, plastic, gypsum or painted backgrounds without appropriate preparation
- Cement-based, so it is alkaline when wet and demands skin, eye and respiratory precautions during mixing
- Performance depends on a sound, clean, dimensionally stable background — weak, dusty or laitance-covered substrates must be corrected first
Selection & best practice
Start with the substrate: it must be structurally sound, clean, free of dust, oil, curing-compound residue and laitance, and dimensionally stable — patch and level major deviations before you begin. Add the powder to clean water (the ShaliTile Fix range mixes at roughly a 4:1 powder-to-water volume ratio) using a slow-speed mechanical mixer, blend to a smooth, lump-free paste, then let it slake for about 5 minutes and remix briefly. Apply within the working ambient range of roughly 4°C to 40°C. Comb the adhesive onto the background with a square-notched trowel sized to the tile — aim for a minimum bed of about 2 mm and full contact behind the tile — working only the area you can tile before the surface skins over. Press and slide each tile home within the open time, back-buttering large or heavily profiled tiles for full coverage, and check the bed periodically by lifting a tile. Leave appropriate joints, let the bed cure before grouting, and pair with a compatible ShaliTile grout. Always confirm mix ratio, coverage, open time and cure against STP’s current product data sheet for your batch and site conditions.

How we position STP ShaliTile Fix 200
ShaliTile Fix 200 is the middle grade in STP’s tile-fixing system, and it is easiest to specify by placing it against its siblings: choose the base-grade ShaliTile Fix 100 for everyday small-format interior work on a budget, stay with Fix 200 for medium-to-large tiles and wet interior or sheltered-exterior areas, and move up to Fix 300 / Fix 300 White for natural stone or the deformable Fix 400 for heavily stressed and high-movement installations. Finish every job with a matching ShaliTile grout — including STP’s epoxy grout options — for a single-supplier, warranty-friendly system. Space Arc also distributes equivalent tile adhesives from Fosroc and other leading brands, so if a project is written around a specific manufacturer’s specification we can cross-match to the correct grade rather than force a substitution.
Fosroc Nitobond Tile Adhesive — A specifier working to a Fosroc-standard bill of materials can substitute Nitobond Tile Adhesive for everyday interior ceramic wall and floor work, though for larger-format, wet or heavier tiling a higher polymer-modified Fosroc grade should be confirmed.
