UltraTech Tilefixo X’traPlus White

A white, polymer-modified cement adhesive built for large-format marble, glass mosaic and natural stone — where colour bleed-through isn’t an option.

What is it?

A single-component, white cement-based tile adhesive modified with polymers, rated IS 15477:2019 Type 4 TS1 for extended open time and flexibility.

Where is it used?

Interior and exterior walls and floors — large Italian marble, glass mosaic, translucent tiles, natural stone cladding, and premium bathrooms, lobbies and showrooms, including wet and submerged areas.

Why use it?

The white base won’t show through light stone or glass tile the way a grey adhesive can, and the polymer modification gives it grip and flexibility to hold heavy, large-format slabs without drumming or hollow spots.

How is it applied?

Mixed with clean water to a lump-free paste, combed onto the substrate with a notched trowel, and the tile pressed (back-buttered for large slabs) within the open time; grouting and traffic follow after full cure.

About UltraTech Tilefixo X’traPlus White

UltraTech Tilefixo X’traPlus White sits at the premium end of the Tilefixo range, built for jobs where an ordinary grey adhesive would compromise the finish. Large Italian marble slabs, glass mosaic sheets and light-toned or translucent tiles let some adhesive colour show through, and grey shadowing under a polished white marble slab is a defect that only shows up after the client has moved in. Tilefixo X’traPlus White avoids that with a white cement base in place of the grey OPC used in standard adhesives.

It’s also formulated as a high-strength, polymer-modified adhesive to Type 4 TS1 of IS 15477:2019 — broadly the performance bracket contractors reach for on marble and large-format work. The “T” points to extended open time; the “S1” to flexibility in the cured bed — both useful when heavy stone slabs need repositioning before final alignment, or the substrate sees minor thermal movement.

It’s specified for large-format marble and stone cladding, glass mosaic and translucent tile work, tile-on-tile relaying, and wet-area or submerged work — pool surrounds, spa and premium bathrooms — where strength and appearance both matter. For routine indoor ceramic tiling, a standard grey Type 1 adhesive from the same range is the more economical choice; X’traPlus White earns its premium where whiteness and bond strength are both non-negotiable.

The technical insight

The IS 15477:2019 Type 4 TS1 rating is worth reading literally on site. “T” (extended open time) gives installers roughly 30 minutes to place and adjust a tile after combing — real margin on a 900–1200 mm marble slab needing several hands to align. “S1” (deformable) means the cured bed absorbs a little movement rather than acting as a fully rigid bond, useful where the substrate flexes slightly with temperature. Coverage is quoted at roughly 40 sq ft (about 3.72 sq m) per 20 kg bag at a 6 mm notch-trowel bed under standard conditions; uneven marble backs and the back-buttering needed for full contact will reduce that on real sites, so a trial patch is a better estimate than the bag figure alone.

Where it is used

  • Large-format Italian and imported marble slab fixing, walls and floors.
  • Glass mosaic and translucent tile installation.
  • Natural stone and exterior marble cladding.
  • Tile-on-tile relaying over sound existing tiled surfaces.
  • Commercial lobbies, showrooms and premium retail floors.
  • Bathroom, spa and wet-area tiling, including submerged surfaces.
  • Fixing over dry-lining substrates — gypsum board, MDF, fibre-cement board, cement board.

Key advantages

  • White cement base eliminates grey shadowing under light marble, glass mosaic and translucent tiles.
  • Polymer modification gives high wet tensile adhesion, above 1.0 MPa, for heavy slabs.
  • Extended open time of around 30 minutes gives more room to align large-format pieces.
  • S1 flexibility tolerates minor substrate movement without bond failure.
  • Rated for wet and submerged use once cured — pools, water features, wet bathrooms.
  • Works over cementitious substrates and common dry-lining boards.

Limitations & considerations

  • Premium pricing over standard grey Type 1 adhesives — not the economical choice for routine ceramic tiling.
  • Water ratio is fixed at roughly 25 percent by weight; extra water to extend workability lowers adhesion.
  • Like all cementitious adhesives, it needs a sound, stable substrate — not a fix for a moving or cracked base.
  • Full cure, at least 24 hours, is needed before grouting or foot traffic; premature loading risks debonding.

Selection & best practice

Dry-fit large slabs before mixing adhesive — repositioning after the open time has lapsed is where most bond failures start. Mix only what can be placed within the pot life, about an hour, and comb fresh adhesive rather than skinning over an old bed. For slabs over roughly 600 mm, or stone with an uneven back, back-butter the tile as well as combing the substrate — it closes voids a 6 mm notch won’t fill, and is what actually delivers the “no hollowness” claim. Don’t loosen the mix with extra water on a hot day.

Industry use cases

Premium Residential

Large-format Italian marble flooring and feature walls where a visible grey line under the stone joints would be unacceptable.

Commercial & Hospitality

Lobby and showroom floors in glass mosaic or polished stone, where the tile is the design statement and needs full, void-free bedding.

Wet Areas & Wellness

Spa, pool surround and premium bathroom tiling, including submerged sections, where bond strength and finish quality are both scrutinised.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from a standard tile adhesive?
It uses a white cement base instead of grey, so it won’t discolour light marble, glass mosaic or translucent tiles, and it’s rated to IS 15477:2019 Type 4 TS1 for extended open time and flexibility, above a base Type 1 rating.
Can it be used for large marble slabs on floors and walls?
Yes — it’s formulated for large-format marble and natural stone on both floors and vertical surfaces, with enough open time to adjust heavy slabs before the bed sets.
What’s the coverage per bag?
Around 40 sq ft, about 3.72 sq m, per 20 kg bag at a 6 mm notch-trowel thickness under standard conditions; back-buttering large or uneven tiles uses more.
Is it suitable for submerged or wet areas like pools?
Yes, once fully cured it’s rated for wet-area and submerged use, suiting pool surrounds, water features and wet bathrooms.

How we position UltraTech Tilefixo X’traPlus White

Within UltraTech’s Tilefixo range, X’traPlus White sits above the standard grey Type 1 products and is the one to reach for when the tile itself is the risk — large marble, glass, or anything pale enough to telegraph adhesive colour underneath. It gives contractors an IS 15477 Type 4 TS1-rated option stocked and priced for Indian sites, with Space Arc Engineering supplying, and where needed applying, it across Delhi NCR and pan-India projects.
