What is it?

A single-component, white cement-based tile adhesive modified with polymers and formulated to IS 15477:2019 Type 3T. It sets without needing the tiles to be pre-soaked.

Where is it used?

Interior and exterior floors and walls on residential and commercial projects, including wet zones such as bathrooms and balconies and submerged areas such as pool decks.

Why use it?

The white base doesn’t shadow through light-coloured or translucent stone the way ordinary grey adhesive can, and a 30-minute open time gives tilers real working room on medium and large format pieces.

How is it applied?

Mix with 24-26% potable water to a lump-free paste, comb onto the prepared substrate at 6-12 mm bed thickness with a notched trowel, back-butter large-format or vertical tiles, then press and beat in within the open time.

About UltraTech Tilefixo YT

Tilefixo YT sits in UltraTech’s line-up as the adhesive contractors reach for when the tile itself is the expensive part of the job — Italian marble, porcelain slabs, glass mosaic, natural stone that can’t afford grey haze bleeding through a light-coloured face. It’s a white, polymer-modified, cement-based adhesive built to IS 15477:2019 Type 3T, sold as a single-component powder that only needs potable water on site.

What separates it from a basic Type 1 wall-tile adhesive is the medium-bed capability — up to 12 mm — and the adhesion performance across dry, wet and heat-aged conditions, all of which matter once you’re fixing 600×600 mm and larger format porcelain or natural stone slabs rather than small ceramic tiles. The self-curing chemistry means the mason doesn’t have to remember to soak tiles beforehand, which on a live site is one less variable to manage.

Space Arc supplies Tilefixo YT to project contractors and applicators across Delhi NCR and pan-India for both new-build and tile-on-tile renovation work, in dry interiors as well as wet and submerged zones — bathroom floors, balcony decks, terraces, and pool surrounds. For teams used to specifying by IS classification rather than brand claims, the Type 3T rating is the number that matters: it puts a floor under tensile and shear adhesion that a generic “premium” adhesive without a stated standard won’t guarantee.

The technical insight

The numbers worth checking on the TDS before ordering are the tensile adhesion values — 1.5-1.7 MPa dry and 1.1-1.2 MPa wet — against the IS 15477 Type 3T minimums of 1.5 and 1.0 MPa respectively. Tilefixo YT sits comfortably above both floors, and the heat-aged shear figure (1.4-1.6 MPa against a 1.0 MPa minimum) is the one that actually tells you how it’ll behave on a west-facing exterior wall in a Delhi summer.

Slip resistance of 0.25-0.5 mm, tested against a 0.5 mm ceiling, is what keeps a freshly set wall tile from creeping down under its own weight before the adhesive grabs — relevant on any vertical cladding run taller than a splashback. The 24-26% water-powder ratio is narrow by design: too much water thins the bond strength and extends cure; too little makes the paste unworkable and reduces coverage per bag. Getting that ratio right, more than any other single step, decides whether the adhesive performs to its rated numbers on site.

Where it is used

  • Italian and Indian marble flooring and wall cladding
  • Porcelain and fully vitrified tiles, indoor and outdoor
  • Glass mosaic and translucent stone panels
  • Natural stone — granite, sandstone and other dimension stone
  • Tile-on-tile fixing over sound existing tiled surfaces
  • Bathroom, kitchen and balcony wet-area tiling
  • Submerged work — pool decks and water-feature surrounds
  • Medium-bed floor and wall fixing up to 12 mm thickness

Key advantages

  • White base leaves no grey shadow under light-coloured or translucent stone
  • Self-curing formulation — no tile pre-soaking step to manage on site
  • 30-minute open time at 30°C gives a workable margin in Indian site heat
  • Adhesion exceeds IS 15477:2019 Type 3T minimums dry, wet and heat-aged
  • Low slip value (0.25-0.5 mm) keeps wall tiles from sliding before the bond sets
  • Rated for wet and submerged zones, not just dry interiors
  • Available in 7 kg, 20 kg and 25 kg bags to match job size

Limitations & considerations

  • Not for flexible substrates — fibre-cement sheeting, plasterboard, timber
  • Cannot go directly onto plywood, glass, metal, plastic or PU waterproofing membranes
  • Not intended for moisture-sensitive stones prone to staining or curling
  • Open time of 30 minutes runs shorter in peak summer heat — mix smaller batches
  • Medium-bed system only, capped at 12 mm — not a thick-bed or rapid-set substitute for heavier build-ups

Selection & best practice

Mix only what a crew can place within the 30-minute open time — in Delhi’s summer months that window shrinks further, so smaller batches beat one large mix going stiff on the board. Back-butter the tile as well as the bed on large-format or vertical work, and check adhesive transfer periodically to confirm full contact rather than isolated dabs. Oversized stone — large-format marble or granite slabs — should carry mechanical anchoring in addition to the adhesive bond. Wear gloves and eye protection while mixing, and rinse any skin or eye contact with clean water immediately.

Industry use cases

Residential — luxury villa & apartment flooring

Fixing Italian marble and large-format porcelain in premium residential builds where a white bed is needed to keep the stone’s true colour showing through.

Hospitality — hotel lobbies & pool decks

Large-format porcelain flooring in lobbies and public areas, plus pool deck and wet-area tiling rated for submerged conditions.

Commercial — retail & office fit-outs

Medium and large format floor tiling in commercial interiors where fast handover and reliable dry/wet adhesion both matter.

Renovation — tile-on-tile upgrades

Re-tiling over sound existing tiled floors in occupied buildings without breaking out the old surface first.

Frequently asked questions

Does Tilefixo YT need the tiles to be soaked before fixing?
No — it’s a self-curing formulation, so tiles go straight onto the adhesive bed without a pre-soak step.
Can it be used for exterior wall cladding?
Yes, it’s suitable for interior and exterior work; check the heat-aged shear adhesion figure (1.4-1.6 MPa) if the wall gets sustained direct sun.
What’s the maximum bed thickness?
12 mm. Beyond that, or for heavy-format stone needing a thicker bed, a rapid-set or thick-bed system is the better fit, not Tilefixo YT.
Is it suitable for swimming pools?
Yes — it’s rated for wet and submerged areas, which covers pool decks and surrounds, though the pool waterproofing membrane and grout selection still need to be compatible.
How long does a mixed batch stay usable?
Pot life is about 120 minutes at 27°C, but open time — the window to place tiles after combing — is shorter, about 30 minutes at 30°C, so match batch size to what the crew can actually lay.

How we position UltraTech Tilefixo YT

Tilefixo YT is UltraTech’s step-up from ordinary grey wall-tile adhesive — built for jobs where the tile is a light-coloured or natural-stone slab, not standard ceramic, and where Type 3T-grade adhesion across dry, wet and heat-aged conditions is a project spec rather than a nice-to-have. For chemical-exposure or heavily trafficked industrial floors needing an epoxy tile-fixing system, look beyond this cement-based range entirely.
