What is it?

A two-component, isocyanate-cured polyurethane top coat from STP Limited, formulated as part of a traffic-deck system for car parks and heavy-duty floors.

Where is it used?

Multi-storey and basement car park decks, ramps, parking bays, pedestrian walkways, roof decks, warehouses, factories and hangars.

Why use it?

It stays flexible enough to ride over the flexing and thermal movement of a suspended deck without cracking, while resisting tyre abrasion, oil and fuel spillage.

How is it applied?

Applied by medium-pile roller, brush or squeegee over an approved primer, in two coats at a minimum 300-micron film per coat on prepared concrete.

About STP ShaliFloor 2PU FC

STP ShaliFloor 2PU FC is a two-component, isocyanate-cured polyurethane coating engineered specifically for the traffic-deck environment. On a car park deck the surface has to cope with turning and braking forces, dripping oil and fuel, de-icing salts carried in on tyres, and the constant expansion and contraction of a suspended concrete slab. A rigid epoxy tends to craze and delaminate under that regime; ShaliFloor 2PU FC instead cures to a tough but flexible film that flexes with the deck and self-levels to a seamless, easily cleaned finish. It is supplied in grey, with Component A and Component B pre-weighed for an 85:15 ratio by weight, so there is no site guesswork on the mix.

The product is not a stand-alone paint but the wearing layer of a complete system. It is designed to go down over an approved solvent-free primer (STP recommends ShaliPrime 2E SF) on sound concrete, and for decks exposed to strong sunlight it is over-coated with an aliphatic UV-stable top coat. That system approach is deliberate: the primer secures adhesion into the substrate, ShaliFloor 2PU FC provides the flexible, abrasion- and chemical-resistant body, and the optional UV coat protects the colour. For engineers and applicators in Delhi NCR and across India, Space Arc Engineering supplies the material as an authorised STP distributor and applicator, so the primer, top coat and technical backup come from a single accountable source.

The technical insight

The performance comes from the polyurethane chemistry itself. When Component B (the isocyanate hardener) is mixed into Component A, the two react and crosslink into a dense elastomeric network rather than a brittle glassy one. That network is what gives the cured film its characteristic combination of high elongation (35-45% at 7 days) and useful tensile strength (3.5-6 MPa) — it can stretch to accommodate deck movement and crack-bridging without failing, yet it is hard enough (Shore D 50 +/- 5) to take vehicle traffic. The tight crosslink density is also what delivers the abrasion figure of 110 +/- 10 mg loss over 1000 cycles (Taber CS-17) and the chemical resistance to oils, fuels and salts. Because the film is applied at a substantial thickness — a minimum 300 microns per coat, with recommended dry film above 300 microns — there is enough material to wear against over years of service rather than a thin skin that quickly abrades through to the primer.

Where it is used

  • Wearing/top coat for multi-storey and basement car park decks
  • Access ramps and parking bays subject to turning and braking loads
  • Pedestrian walkways and circulation routes within parking structures
  • Exposed roof decks requiring a flexible, trafficable finish
  • Warehouse and factory floors with combined mechanical and chemical exposure
  • Aircraft hangar floors and maintenance areas
  • Industrial floors needing resistance to oil, fuel and de-icing salts
  • Refurbishment of existing decks where a flexible seamless overlay is required

Key advantages

  • Flexible PU film bridges deck movement and resists cracking under vehicle traffic
  • Low-VOC formulation eases application by brush, roller or squeegee in occupied structures
  • Self-levelling to a seamless, jointless, easy-to-clean surface
  • High abrasion resistance (110 +/- 10 mg loss, Taber CS-17, 1000 cycles) for long deck life
  • Proven resistance to a wide range of industrial chemicals, oils and fuels
  • Pre-weighed 85:15 packs remove on-site mixing-ratio error
  • Good elongation (35-45%) combined with Shore D 50 hardness for a tough yet resilient finish
  • Durable, low-maintenance system backed by STP technical data and Space Arc site support

Limitations & considerations

  • Not a stand-alone product — requires an approved primer (ShaliPrime 2E SF) and a complete system to perform
  • Grey PU is not UV-stable; areas in prolonged sunlight need an aliphatic UV top coat (ShaliFloor 2AC PU TC) or the colour will shift
  • Must not be applied over substrates suffering rising damp, osmosis risk or relative humidity above 75%
  • Substrate moisture must be below 2% and application is limited to +10 C to +40 C ambient and substrate temperature
  • Certain chemicals can cause loss of gloss or colour change even where protection is unaffected
  • Contains isocyanate and is flammable — requires ventilation, PPE and ignition control during application

Selection & best practice

Success starts with the substrate. New concrete should be at least 28 days old, sound, and free of laitance, curing compound, oil and grease; old floors should be degreased and abrasive blast-cleaned to SSPC-SP13 / NACE No. 6. Always prime with ShaliPrime 2E SF and apply a second priming coat on porous areas, letting the primer reach a tack-free state before top-coating. Mix the full hardener into the base with a slow-speed drill and paddle for 3-5 minutes to a uniform colour, keeping the paddle below the surface to avoid trapping air — never mix by hand and never add thinner. Apply the first coat at a minimum 300 microns; once it reaches initial cure (about 12 hours at 25 C or 7 hours at 35 C), lay the second coat at a minimum 300 microns, ensuring a continuous film. Carry every expansion joint in the substrate through the coating. Where UV exposure is prolonged, finish with a 100-micron coat of ShaliFloor 2AC PU TC. Work within the pot life (20-30 minutes for 100 g of mix) and clean tools immediately with STP Thinner before the material hardens.

Frequently asked questions

What is ShaliFloor 2PU FC used for?
It is a two-component polyurethane top coat designed as the wearing layer of a traffic-deck system — mainly car park decks, ramps, parking bays, walkways, roof decks and heavy-duty industrial floors that need a flexible, abrasion- and chemical-resistant finish.
How much ShaliFloor 2PU FC do I need per square metre?
Theoretical consumption is 0.7-1.0 kg/m2 to achieve the recommended film. Actual usage runs higher depending on the surface profile and application wastage, so allow a margin over the theoretical figure when estimating.
Does it need a primer?
Yes. It is a system product and should be applied over an approved primer — STP recommends ShaliPrime 2E SF, with a second priming coat on porous areas — after the concrete has been correctly prepared and blast-cleaned.
Is ShaliFloor 2PU FC UV stable?
The grey PU itself is not UV-stable, so in areas of prolonged sunlight it can lose gloss or shift colour. For those zones apply a 100-micron aliphatic UV top coat (ShaliFloor 2AC PU TC) over it; the protective performance of the base coat is unaffected either way.
How long before the deck can take traffic?
At 30 C and 60% RH it is touch dry in 1-2 hours, ready for light traffic after 18-24 hours and full traffic after 24-48 hours. Cooler conditions extend these times.
What pack sizes and shelf life does it come in?
It is supplied in 5 kg packs (4.25 kg Comp A + 0.75 kg Comp B) and 10 kg packs (8.5 kg Comp A + 1.5 kg Comp B). Shelf life is 12 months from manufacture in sealed original packs stored at 5-38 C, out of direct sunlight.

How we position STP ShaliFloor 2PU FC

ShaliFloor 2PU FC sits at the wearing-course stage of STP’s traffic-deck system and is best specified alongside its companion products from Space Arc: prime with STP ShaliPrime 2E SF for adhesion, and for sun-exposed decks finish with the aliphatic, UV-stable ShaliFloor 2AC PU TC. Where a fully self-levelling seamless PU screed is wanted instead of a coating, STP’s ShaliFloor SL PU is the heavier-build option, while ShaliFloor TC 2PU is the clear/pigmented UV-resistant top coat for aesthetic areas. Across our other brands, specifiers weighing an epoxy-PU hybrid for hygienic industrial floors often compare it with Fosroc’s Nitoflor range, and Sika and MC-Bauchemie offer parallel deck-coating systems — our team can match the right build-up to the exposure and budget of your project.

Preferred brand · Fosroc equivalent

Fosroc Nitoflor FC400 UH — A specifier who wants a solvent-free, hybrid-polyurethane coating for abrasion-heavy industrial floors and car parks — with the Fosroc system and warranty behind it — may prefer FC400 UH over the solvent-borne STP option.
