About STP ShaliTile Fix 300

STP ShaliTile Fix 300 is a factory-blended tile adhesive from STP Limited, formulated with cement, graded silica and performance additives so that a contractor only has to add clean water on site. It sits in the middle of the ShaliTile Fix range: heavier on polymer than the general-purpose Fix 100 and Fix 200 grades, yet more economical than the deformable Fix 400. That positioning makes it the workhorse choice for the vitrified tiles, granites and marbles that dominate Indian residential and commercial projects, where a conventional sand-cement bed no longer gives dependable adhesion to low-porosity surfaces.

The product is classified to IS 15477 Type 3 and EN 12004 C2TE, meaning it is a cementitious (C2) adhesive that is slip resistant (T) with extended open time (E). In plain terms, it grips dense tiles that absorb almost no water, holds them on vertical surfaces without sagging, and stays workable long enough to true up a run of large-format tiles before it skins over. Because the film is waterproof and self-curing once set, it is well suited to the wet zones and weather-exposed facades that trip up ordinary tiling mortars in Indian conditions.

The technical insight

The reason a thin-bed adhesive like Fix 300 outperforms a traditional cement-sand mortar comes down to how it bonds. Vitrified and porcelain tiles have an apparent porosity at or below 3 percent, so they cannot draw a mechanical key by absorbing moisture the way a porous ceramic tile does. Fix 300 solves this chemically: the redispersible polymer in the blend forms a flexible film that wets the tile back and cures into a continuous, adhesive interface, while the cement fraction hydrates to build compressive strength. The result is a dry tensile adhesion of 1.53 N/mm2 that still holds 1.03 N/mm2 after water immersion, comfortably clearing the C2 threshold. The “T” slip-resistance additive keeps a freshly placed tile from creeping more than 0.48 mm on a wall, and the “E” chemistry extends open time to 35 minutes so the adhesive ridge does not glaze before the tile is bedded. Applied at only 2-6 mm as a thin bed, it also cuts dead load and material consumption compared with a thick mortar screed.

Where it is used

  • Fixing vitrified and fully vitrified tiles on interior floors and walls
  • Bonding granite, marble and reconstituted stone slabs in living areas and lobbies
  • Tiling bathrooms, toilets, kitchens and other waterproofed wet areas
  • Cladding terraces, balconies and parapets exposed to weather
  • Fixing tiles and stone over concrete, masonry and cement plaster or render
  • Wall tiling where slip resistance is needed to stop heavy tiles slumping
  • Exterior facade tiling in sheltered, waterproofed zones
  • Renovation tiling over structurally sound cementitious backgrounds

Key advantages

  • Pre-blended powder that needs only clean water added at site, giving consistent batches
  • High, water-resistant bond strength suited to dense vitrified tiles and stone
  • Slip resistant, so heavy tiles stay put on vertical surfaces without wedges
  • Extended 35-minute open time allows unhurried alignment of large tiles
  • Waterproof and self-curing film ideal for wet areas and exterior use
  • Thin-bed 2-6 mm application reduces material use and dead load versus a mortar screed
  • Works over concrete, masonry, plaster and render without a separate primer in most cases
  • Conforms to both IS 15477 Type 3 and EN 12004 C2TE for specifier confidence

Limitations & considerations

  • Not suitable over wood, metal, glass, plastic, vinyl-covered wallboard, cement-asbestos board, asphalt sheeting or gypsum beds
  • Must be applied only when ambient temperature is between 4 and 40 degrees C
  • Being a C2TE (non-deformable) grade, it is not the right choice for substrates with significant movement, where a deformable S1/S2 adhesive is needed
  • Bed thickness is limited to 2-6 mm, so it cannot double as a levelling or dubbing-out mortar
  • Requires a clean, sound, waterproofed and pre-moistened substrate; performance drops on dusty, oily or friable surfaces
  • Pot life is about 155 minutes and open time 35 minutes, so mixed material must be used promptly and not re-tempered once stiff

Selection & best practice

Confirm the background is clean, dry, structurally sound and free of grease, oil, dust and laitance, and wire-brush it for a uniform flat surface before starting. Lightly moisten the prepared substrate. Mix Fix 300 into water at 4:1 by volume: take two-thirds of the water, add the powder slowly under a slow-speed mechanical mixer, then add the remaining third and mix to a smooth, lump-free consistency. Let it stand for 5 minutes, then comb onto the substrate with a square-notched trowel to a minimum 2 mm bed within the open time. For large or heavy tiles and stone, also back-butter the tile to eliminate voids, then press firmly for a few seconds to collapse the ridges and achieve full contact. Work in areas you can tile before the adhesive skins over, clean squeezed-out material from faces and joints while fresh, and wash tools with water immediately before the mortar hardens. Only tackle grouting once the adhesive has set.

Industry use cases

Residential fit-out

Fixing 600×600 mm vitrified floor tiles and marble in apartments and villas, where the extended open time helps installers keep large tiles level and lippage-free.

Commercial interiors

Bonding porcelain and stone in retail, office and hotel lobbies over concrete and plaster, with the water-resistant bond meeting heavy footfall demands.

Wet areas

Tiling bathrooms, kitchens and shower zones over a waterproofed background, using the self-curing, waterproof film to sustain adhesion under constant moisture.

External wet-exposed

Cladding terraces, balconies and sheltered facades where slip resistance stops vertical tiles slumping and the mortar tolerates weather cycling.

Renovation and overlay

Re-tiling sound cementitious backgrounds as a thin 2-6 mm bed, cutting dead load and floor build-up compared with a traditional thick sand-cement screed.

Frequently asked questions

What is the coverage of one 20 kg bag of ShaliTile Fix 300?
A 20 kg bag covers about 6.5 to 7 square metres at a 2 mm bed thickness. Actual coverage varies with substrate flatness, notch size and how much you back-butter the tiles, so allow a margin on site.
Can Fix 300 be used for large vitrified tiles and natural stone?
Yes. As a C2TE polymer-modified adhesive it is designed for dense, low-porosity vitrified tiles, granite, marble and reconstituted stone on both floors and walls, which conventional sand-cement mortar cannot bond reliably.
Is ShaliTile Fix 300 suitable for wet areas and exteriors?
Yes. The cured film is waterproof and self-curing, so it suits bathrooms, kitchens, terraces and balconies over a properly waterproofed background, as well as sheltered exterior surfaces.
How is Fix 300 mixed and what is its working time?
Add the powder to water at 4:1 by volume, mix with a slow-speed mixer, rest 5 minutes and re-mix. Pot life is about 155 minutes at 20 deg C and open time is 35 minutes, so place and bed tiles before the adhesive skins over.
What surfaces should Fix 300 not be applied to?
Do not use it over wood, metal, glass, plastic, vinyl-covered wallboard, cement-asbestos board, asphalt sheeting or gypsum beds. It is meant for concrete, masonry and cementitious plaster or render, applied between 4 and 40 deg C.
How does Fix 300 differ from Fix 200 and Fix 400 in the ShaliTile range?
Fix 300 carries more polymer than the general-purpose Fix 100/200 grades, giving stronger, water-resistant adhesion for vitrified tiles and stone. Fix 400 is a deformable C2TES1 grade for substrates with movement; choose it when flexibility, not just bond strength, is the priority.

How we position STP ShaliTile Fix 300

Within the STP ShaliTile family, Fix 300 is the C2TE step up from the general-purpose Fix 100 and Fix 200 grades and sits just below the deformable Fix 400 (C2TES1): specify Fix 300 for standard-format vitrified tiles and stone on stable backgrounds, and move up to Fix 400 where the substrate flexes or heats, such as over screeds with underfloor heating or younger concrete. Space Arc supplies the full ShaliTile range Pan-India, and for the same C2 thin-bed duty we also stock equivalent polymer-modified adhesives from other lines we carry, including MYK Laticrete and Dr. Fixit, so specifiers can match brand preference or site availability. Pair Fix 300 with a cementitious waterproofing membrane in wet areas before tiling, and finish with a matching polymer-modified tile grout and a compatible silicone or PU joint sealant at movement and perimeter joints for a complete, warranty-friendly tiling system.
