What is it?

A two-component (resin + hardener) high-build epoxy floor top coat from STP Limited, formerly sold as ShaliPoxy FC. It cures to a hard, semi-gloss, jointless film over prepared concrete.

Where is it used?

Warehouses, manufacturing sheds, automotive workshops, commercial kitchens and institutional floors that need a clean, hard-wearing, easy-to-maintain surface.

Why use it?

Its high-build formulation reaches the target film thickness in fewer coats, sealing dusting concrete and delivering strong abrasion and chemical resistance without the cost of a full self-levelling system.

How is it applied?

Prime sound, dry concrete with ShaliPrime EP or 2EC, then apply the mixed epoxy by stiff brush or roller in two coats laid at right angles to each other.

About STP ShaliFloor TC 2 HBE

ShaliFloor TC 2 HBE is STP’s workhorse high-build epoxy floor coating, a product many older specifications still list under its previous name, ShaliPoxy FC. It is a two-pack system: a pigmented epoxy resin base and a hardener that are blended on site immediately before use. Once mixed and applied, the two components cross-link into a dense, chemically bonded film that grips the concrete substrate and converts a dusty, porous slab into a smooth, monolithic wearing surface. Because it is formulated to be laid thick, a single coat builds far more dry film than a conventional thin-film paint, which is why it is described as high-build.

For engineers and facility owners, the appeal is practical. A bare or worn concrete floor sheds fine dust, stains easily and is hard to keep hygienic; this coating seals it and leaves a hard, semi-gloss finish that resists foot and light wheeled traffic, wipes clean and stands up to spills of oils, fuels and mild acids or alkalis. The cured film has been tested by CFTRI against US FDA method 21 CFR 175-300, so it suits food-contact and processing environments where surface safety matters. Space Arc Engineering supplies the product and, as an authorised applicator across Delhi NCR and pan-India, can execute the surface preparation and application as a complete package rather than leaving you to source contractors separately.

The technical insight

The performance comes from two things working together: the chemistry of the cure and the geometry of a thick film. When Component A (epoxy resin) and Component B (hardener) are combined in the correct ratio, the hardener’s amine groups react with the epoxide rings on the resin, building a tightly cross-linked, three-dimensional polymer network. That dense network is what gives the coating its hardness, its resistance to abrasion (rated excellent on the Taber CS17 wheel test) and its resistance to chemical attack, because there are few open pathways for oils, fuels or dilute acids and alkalis to penetrate. Laying the material high-build amplifies this: a thicker, continuous film has no thin spots or pinholes where the substrate is exposed, so the barrier is genuinely monolithic. This is also why moisture control before application is non-negotiable. Epoxy will not bond reliably to a damp or vapour-driving slab; if water is migrating up through the concrete it can lift or blister the film. Keeping the substrate below roughly 5 percent moisture, and the ambient relative humidity below 75 percent, lets the cross-linking proceed cleanly and the film key into the primed surface.

Where it is used

  • Sealing and hard-wearing top coating of industrial manufacturing and assembly floors
  • Warehouse, godown and logistics-centre floors subject to constant foot and light trolley traffic
  • Automotive service bays and workshops exposed to oil, grease and fuel spills
  • Commercial and institutional kitchens needing a hygienic, easy-clean surface
  • Food and beverage processing areas requiring an FDA-tested, wipe-clean floor
  • Educational, hospital and institutional corridors and utility rooms
  • Refurbishment of dusting or lightly worn concrete slabs to a clean semi-gloss finish
  • Colour-coded zoning of factory floors for safety and traffic management

Key advantages

  • High-build formulation reaches the specified dry film thickness in fewer coats, saving labour and time
  • Seals dusting concrete and delivers a dust-free, easy-to-clean surface
  • Excellent abrasion resistance verified by the Taber CS17 test
  • Good resistance to oils, fuels and mild acids and alkalis
  • Jointless, monolithic, non-porous film that is hygienic and simple to maintain
  • Cured coating tested by CFTRI to US FDA 21 CFR 175-300, suiting food-processing areas
  • Available in a wide range of colours for zoning and aesthetics
  • Cures to a hard semi-gloss finish and reopens to traffic in about 24 hours

Limitations & considerations

  • Not a decorative self-levelling floor; the finish follows the profile of the substrate rather than flowing out perfectly flat
  • Must not be applied over slabs suffering rising damp, osmosis or relative humidity above 75 percent
  • Requires a proper primer (ShaliPrime EP or 2EC) and mechanically prepared concrete for reliable adhesion
  • Application window is limited to between 10 degrees C and 45 degrees C
  • As a two-pack epoxy it has a limited pot life once mixed and must be used promptly
  • Epoxy top coats can chalk or lose gloss under prolonged direct UV, so it is best suited to interior floors

Selection & best practice

Start with the substrate, because most epoxy floor failures trace back to it. The concrete must be sound and cured, free of dust, laitance, oil and old coatings, and mechanically textured by shot blasting or scarifying to open the surface for a mechanical key. Confirm the slab moisture is below about 5 percent and ambient relative humidity is under 75 percent before you open any tins. Prime the prepared concrete with ShaliPrime EP or ShaliPrime 2EC and let it tack off. Mix Component A and Component B thoroughly in the manufacturer’s ratio using a slow-speed drill and paddle, scraping the sides so no unmixed resin remains, and only mix what can be used within the pot life. Because the material is thick in consistency, a stiff-bristle brush works better than a soft one; apply two coats at right angles to each other to even out the film and eliminate thin spots. Keep the temperature between 10 and 45 degrees C throughout application and cure, protect the fresh film from dust and traffic, and allow the full cure period before subjecting the floor to heavy loads.

Frequently asked questions

What is ShaliFloor TC 2 HBE, and is it the same as ShaliPoxy FC?
Yes. It is STP’s 2K high-build epoxy floor top coat and was formerly marketed as ShaliPoxy FC, so older specifications naming ShaliPoxy FC refer to the same product.
Do I need a primer before applying it?
Yes. Concrete should be primed with ShaliPrime EP or ShaliPrime 2EC after the slab has been shot blasted or scarified. Priming seals the surface and gives the top coat a reliable bond.
How many coats are needed and how thick is the finished floor?
It is normally applied in two coats laid at right angles, building 150-300 microns per coat for a total dry film of about 300-500 microns.
Can it be used in food-processing areas?
Yes. The cured film has been tested by CFTRI against US FDA method 21 CFR 175-300, making it suitable for kitchens and food and beverage processing floors.
What conditions rule out using this coating?
Do not apply it over slabs with rising damp, osmosis problems or relative humidity above 75 percent, and only apply between 10 and 45 degrees C on a substrate below about 5 percent moisture.
When can the floor be used after coating?
It typically cures enough to reopen to traffic in about 24 hours, though heavy loading should wait for the full cure. Actual times vary with temperature and film thickness.

How we position STP ShaliFloor TC 2 HBE

ShaliFloor TC 2 HBE is the right pick when you want a robust, cost-effective sealed floor rather than a decorative poured system. Where you need a perfectly flat, jointless decorative finish, step up within the STP family to a self-levelling topping such as ShaliFloor SL TC 2E or the 4K pigmented ShaliFloor SL TC 4E; for aggressive chemical exposure look at the novolac-based ShaliFloor SL NES TC, and for UV-exposed or car-deck areas the polyurethane ShaliFloor TC 2PU resists chalking better than epoxy. Always pair it with the matching STP primer, ShaliPrime EP or 2EC. Space Arc also stocks equivalents across other brands, so if your specification calls for Fosroc, Sika or MC-Bauchemie flooring we can cross-match on film thickness, chemical duty and finish.
