Dr. Fixit Raincoat
Elastomeric Exterior Wall Waterproofing and Decorative Coating for Monsoon Protection
Authorized Project Distributor — Dr. Fixit by Pidilite | Space Arc Engineering, Ghaziabad
Product Overview
Dr. Fixit Raincoat is a premium elastomeric acrylic waterproofing and decorative coating manufactured by Pidilite Industries for application on external rendered concrete and masonry building facades. Unlike conventional exterior emulsion paints that provide only surface aesthetics with minimal water resistance, Dr. Fixit Raincoat is formulated with a high-solids elastomeric acrylic polymer base that deposits a significantly thicker dry film (100 to 200 micrometres versus 20 to 40 micrometres for standard emulsion) and provides crack-bridging capability — the ability of the film to stretch across hairline cracks in the render below without tearing, preventing rain water from entering the crack and migrating into the wall. External facades of Indian buildings — particularly older construction with cement-sand renders — commonly develop a network of fine thermal shrinkage cracks (map cracking) and horizontal shrinkage cracks at beam-column junctions over time. These cracks, while often innocuous from a structural standpoint, allow monsoon rain water to penetrate the facade, causing water staining, efflorescence, dampness in interior rooms, and progressive deterioration of the plaster and masonry. Dr. Fixit Raincoat addresses this with its elastomeric film that accommodates crack widths up to 0.3 to 0.5 mm without membrane failure while providing the decorative colour finish expected of an exterior wall coating. Available in an extensive range of colours including shades matched to popular exterior paint brands, Dr. Fixit Raincoat also incorporates UV-stabilized pigments that maintain colour fastness under Indian solar radiation levels better than standard acrylic paints. The product is water-based (waterborne acrylic), allowing safe application by brush, roller, or airless spray and easy water-based clean-up of tools, and is breathable (vapour-permeable) — moisture vapour from within the wall can escape through the coating without causing blistering, a critical requirement for freshly plastered walls that have not fully dried. Space Arc Engineering supplies Dr. Fixit Raincoat for building renovation, facade waterproofing, and new construction finishing projects throughout Delhi NCR, Ghaziabad, and Uttar Pradesh.
Applications
- External building facade waterproofing — residential apartments, villas, and commercial buildings
- Rendered brick and concrete masonry exterior wall protection against monsoon rain penetration
- Parapet external face waterproofing — prevents rain water saturation of parapet masonry
- Renovation of weathered and cracked external render — crack-bridging waterproof overcoat
- Compound wall and boundary wall external face weatherproofing
- External staircase and corridor waterproofing — exposed cement render surfaces in common areas
Key Advantages
- Elastomeric film — bridges hairline cracks up to 0.3 to 0.5 mm without membrane failure
- Monsoon protection — seamless low-permeability film prevents rain water penetration of facade
- Decorative finish — wide colour range with UV-stable pigments for long-term colour retention
- Breathable — vapour-permeable coating prevents blistering on walls with residual moisture
- Water-based — safe application, low VOC, easy clean-up with water
- Long-lasting — elastomeric coating requires recoating less frequently than standard emulsion paint

Frequently Asked Questions
How should a building owner or contractor prepare and treat a weathered exterior concrete wall with map cracking and efflorescence before applying Dr. Fixit Raincoat, and what primer is required?
Weathered exterior walls of Indian residential buildings commonly present a combination of defects that must be addressed before any waterproofing coating can be applied effectively. Map cracking (a random network of fine shrinkage cracks in the render surface), efflorescence (white crystalline salt deposits on the facade surface), peeling or hollow-sounding render, biological growth (algae, lichens, or moss), and dirt and pollutant staining are the typical conditions encountered on facades more than 5 to 10 years old. Each defect requires specific treatment as follows before Dr. Fixit Raincoat application. Efflorescence treatment: Dry-brush all efflorescence deposits off the surface using a stiff-bristled brush. Treat persistent efflorescence areas with a dilute muriatic acid solution (1 part acid to 10 parts water by volume), applied with a brush and left for 5 to 10 minutes before thorough water rinsing. Do not apply Raincoat over active efflorescence as the salts will push through the coating over time. Hollow and de-bonded render: Tap the facade systematically with a wooden mallet and mark all hollow-sounding areas with chalk. Hollow plaster must be carefully broken out, the substrate cleaned, and new polymer-modified plaster (Dr. Fixit Repairite mix) applied, scratched to key, and allowed to cure for a minimum of 14 days before Raincoat application. Map cracking treatment: For cracks wider than 0.5 mm, chase the crack to a minimum 6 mm wide V-groove with a crack chaser or grinder, clean, dampen, and fill with Dr. Fixit Repairite repair mortar. For hairline cracks less than 0.3 mm, the elastomeric Raincoat film will bridge these cracks — no individual crack treatment is needed. Biological growth: Apply a dilute bleach solution (sodium hypochlorite at 5 to 10 percent active chlorine, diluted 1:5 with water) to any algae or mould-contaminated areas, leave for 30 minutes, then scrub and rinse thoroughly. Allow the treated surface to dry for a minimum of 48 hours before continuing. Surface cleaning: Wash the entire facade with clean water using a stiff brush or low-pressure washer to remove dust, dirt, and loose surface debris. Allow to dry completely before priming. Priming for Dr. Fixit Raincoat: Apply Dr. Fixit Primer (the recommended alkali-resistant waterproof primer specified for use with Raincoat) to the prepared dry facade in one full coat by brush or roller. Allow the primer coat to dry for a minimum of 4 to 6 hours before applying the first coat of Raincoat. Priming is critical on freshly plastered concrete and masonry — it prevents the alkaline substrate from saponifying (breaking down) the acrylic binder in the first Raincoat coat before the film can form. After primer, apply Dr. Fixit Raincoat in a minimum of two full coats by brush or roller, allowing 4 to 6 hours drying time between coats in Indian summer conditions (2 to 3 hours may be sufficient in hot, dry weather above 35 degrees C).
