Product Overview

Dr. Fixit SBR is a liquid styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) polymer emulsion manufactured by Pidilite Industries for use as an admixture in cement-based mortars, renders, bonding slurries, floor screeds, repair mortars, and concrete to enhance their waterproofing, bond strength, and durability performance. When a portion of the gauging water in a cement mortar mix is replaced by Dr. Fixit SBR emulsion (at a typical dosage of 10 to 15 percent of cement weight), the SBR polymer particles distribute uniformly throughout the cement paste and aggregate matrix. As the cementitious mix sets and the water is consumed by cement hydration, the SBR polymer particles coalesce into a continuous polymer film that permeates and bridges the cement paste, reinforcing the mortar matrix with a flexible polymer network. This polymer network provides the key performance enhancements of Dr. Fixit SBR-modified mortar over standard unmodified cement mortar: significantly increased tensile and flexural strength, substantially improved bond strength to concrete and masonry substrates (particularly important for repair mortars that must adhere to existing concrete under thermal and mechanical stress), reduced water permeability due to the hydrophobic polymer film blocking pore pathways, and improved flexibility that reduces cracking of the mortar under thermal movement and minor substrate deflection. Dr. Fixit SBR is commonly used as the liquid component in cementitious repair mortar systems (replacing or supplementing the gauging water), as a slurry bonding agent mixed with cement powder and applied to concrete substrates before repair mortar placement, and as a waterproofing admixture in rendering mortars for retaining walls, plinths, and underground concrete.
